Open "Search with" in Background Tab by holding a key
-
With regard to my previous request (VB-29927)
The new option should be activated optionally with a key, as in Opera at that time.Menu item / shortcut for "Search with" from the context menu to open the results page in the background
The way it works in Opera 12.18 is
- Holding the Control key when clicking the menu item opens the results in a background tab
- Holding the Shift key opens the results in a new tab
- Just clicking the menu opens the results in the current tab
I don't want to have the new search page in the background all the time
-
Maybe middle-clicking on "search with..." would also be an option to open the result in a background tab.

Since there is already an option to open all search results in a background tab: Settings, Search:
Page Selection Search in BackgroundThis feature request with only seven upvotes after three years is low priority. You could probably create a Command Chain to simulate the desire behaviour, and assign that to the Page Selection menu.
This works to search the selection with the default search engine. After performing the search, focus returns to the recent tab (on which the search was done).

Background
I have saved about 80 search engines.
Unfortunately the quick command does not work with "Search selection with Engine..." here the new page still opens in the foreground. It works only with 'Search with Selection' and annoying is the short flash of the page change.

For me "search with" opening in background by a modifier key Ctrl is a must have.
But that fails, is a longstanding Vivaldi bug.

@DoctorG Is this bug reported to v team yet?

@dude99 Related to VB-75448 "CTRL-click to search selected text in background tab does not work" - Confirmed
VB-24362 ""Search with..." does not open in background tab" - Confirmed -

It works for me, but the command chain must be repeated for each search engine that you might want to use — workable for 2 or 3 most used, but not for all 80 of them!
