Ability to Drag-and-Drop Links to other tabs, windows or tiled tabs
-
Hello!
The Option to ALT-Drag (or CTRL) links to other tabs, especially tiled tabs, would be awesome.
If you are - like me - working with a lot of subpages of websites it is quite tiring to switch between all the pages. Lately I switched to tiling these - and if it was possible to drag a link onto the not required tile to open a new page there, it would save a lot of time:
Before:
- RMB-Click link, select "Copy link address"
- Move mouse to (tiled) tab
- Click to select
(2&3 could be done with tab-cycling as well) - Move Mouse to Address Bar / press F2 (or other specified hotkey) / press F8
- paste copied link and hit Enter (or CTRL+Shift+v)
After:
Hold ALT/CTRL
Click and drag link to (tiled) tab
Release keys. -
My work-around is do drag the link (you have to move the mouse up or down in order to grab the link) and drop it on the tab of the tile I wish to replace.
I REALLY would like to be able to simply drop the link in the pane anywhere, and have the link load.
The exception would be if it got dropped in a textarea, in which case it should be inserted as text. But one step at a time.

@HeroD0t This feature request is very old. Test this again:
- Tile two tabs
- Drag a link from one of the tiled tabs
- Drag it to the other tab and drop it on the tab bar (not in the URL field)
The tab will be highlighted on hover, and the link will open in the tiled tab.

Vote for Super Drag and Drop. That request is even older than the current one, and has more upvotes.

@Pesala Yes, dropping the link on the tab of the tile is the only way to do this
However, as a user of the really old Firefox (pre-57) TileTabs, I really love the ability to just drop the link anywhere in the page to be replaced. It is VERY much faster than finding the tab for the tile, especially as I prefer to use CLOSED accordion tabs at all times.
Regarding super-drag-n-drop, I think I voted for that one too, but that request has a ton of features that are just not part of my workflow, nor is this request an explicit part of it. I will re-read it to be sure. (Update: that one is all about opening stuff in new panes. Not at all like this one)
This one is clean and simple: (Note also, this is FireFox's normal behavior)
If a user drops a link (or shortcut) anywhere in a pane, then load the link in the pane that got the drop. Done.
