Option to move the side panel to the bottom
-
I've been using Chromium for the past few months, and I'm used to the downloads being on the bottom, I'd like an option with the panel to be on the bottom, or the downloads to be on the bottom
-
It would be great to have the ability to have panels on the left, right, and bottom simultaneously.

Related to this (as panel at the bottom can be considered as a floating window anchored to the bottom) : unanchor panel / Free floating panel / Pop-up panel.

@Seasonly that is not related at all or at the most is a very distant stretch.
The requirement is to have the downloads in a status bar at the bottom of the browser similar to Chrome, Firefox, opera etc.
The link you provided is for a floating window (anchored or otherwise) which wouldn't be a very practical application of a slimline status bar. -

I think it is linked since a floating panel (for download managment or for other purpose) anchorable, could be anchored on the current left, or at the bottom, or at the right, or even at the top. This is making a more general panel.This means that we can have then several panels at the same time : on the left, on the bottom...
Finally I'd see panel like a bubble, for which mousehovering on its panel icon, placed on whatever toolbar, would extends its own bubble. The current panel does that only on left, showing only one panel at the same time (if you want to see your downloads you have to hide the current opened panel), and the panel toolbar can't have no other icon than panel icon (Allowing Function and Dropdown Button on the Panel Toolbar).
This current topic is then only a special case (on the bottom) of this general view of the panel, considered only as a toolbar icon with dropped bubble.

@Seasonly I understand what you're trying to say, however that solution is overcomplicating an otherwise simple functionality which has been in place for many years which works in other browsers but has been removed from vivaldi.
I get it that some may want downloads and other functions in a side panel and I see you want to promote the idea of using a popout window/panel (which I believe is now since a feature although I'm unsure if the anchoring is) but this is not practical in other situations so why remove the status bar download function for those that prefer it.
See the last comment here for the example - https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/52396/add-a-download-status-bar-at-bottom -
@gavcol
I'm not programmer, but i think this would need a special more object for the same purpose (another object means less workforce on others features and maintaining) whereas reusing download panel as it is currently, with autorealignment (like web page) to get something similar (and why not better than the simple download bar), would satisfy everyone and more, and would have less code... This'd be a dynamic interface. -
