Control Tab Stacks even more and sync Bookmarks Bar – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1462.4
-
@DriverOp It's a known bug of this snap
-
Another possible bug (or not):
Switching themes don't change hex values in theme page.
Someone could check if it happens? -
-
@hadden89: Oh, I see. I thought it is a feature that can be switched on or off somehow.

@Aronand nope, still there, I was just searching something (CTRL+F) and the browser crashed
Very interesting! Does it at least happen less frequently? Has anyone else seen this happen in this build?
-
@helsten2 Even if you are doing nothing or after 2-3 hours of use?
-
@quhno: After 2-3 hours of use. But it slows down even if I leave Vivaldi running while I am away. I always leave the machine on over night, and Vivaldi has crashed when I come back next morning - every day ...

Allowing to disable tab stacking by drag and drop is a good thing: some people prefer using tab selection + right click, because the drag and drop is quite imprecise.
- More flexibility:
However, I think that the solution could be more clever, and avoid a "permanent" setting.
For example, use a special key (SHIFT
,CTRL
,ALT
or other) to change the behaviour on the fly (ie allow / forbid tab stacking when drag and drop).See the feature request here, and the proposition I made: https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/235495
- Shorcuts needed
Moreover, disabling drag and drop means that we need other way to create a stack.
Once selected, right click is possible, but I think that a keyboard shortcut is now even more important! (and would be more efficient) -
I don't understand what's different about syncing bookmarks bar content. It has always done that for me. The bookmarks bar on my two machines are identical. What makes this update different?
-
@joelyoung: Assuming you have predominantly bookmarks (not folders with bookmarks) in it and that all of your folders have unique names? Probably no difference for you - other than that there were some nasty bugs with folder IDs which could lead them to go out of sync

Ah, okay. Yes, my bookmarks bar is almost all folders, each with unique names like you said.
-
@QuHno Of course hovering a folder on the bar should show the name - but instead it shows "Show Folder Contents" for all folders. That's not right. Can't remember if I filed a bug on it.
-
@helsten2 Try either rebooting every day. Or better yet shut down you machine when done for the day. I don't mean putting it to "sleep" but shutting it down. I always shut mine down each day. Rebooting can and more often than not will fix an amazing number of issues.
-
@Ayespy I don't need to hover over a folder on the bookmarks bar, the title is already there. To show the contents I have always needed to click on the title to see the contents. The contents are the shown in a tree. My bookmarks bar has multiple folders in folders which even have more folders in those folders. I have hundreds of bookmarks. Sometimes I forget where I put a bookmark. But not very often.
-
@Para-Noid My bookmarks bar is icons only. I need to see the folder name when I hover.
-
@Ayespy It must be the way we have our bookmarks set-up. Mine "icons and titles". But when I hover it does say "show folder contents".
-
@para-noid: Well, I like to keep things running... leave them and continue next day.
I spent the day testing standalone installations of Vivaldi stable 2.1 and stable 2.0. Same problem. So I have switched to Chrome as my daily driver. Tried Opera, but it also has some issues ...
Will still test the Vivaldi snapshots
-
@helsten2 Even if you "keep things running" a daily reboot is worth doing. A reboot takes just a few minutes and has some analgesic properties.

If you're leaving things running (I assume you mean programs or applications or documents) and leaving them for the next day, you're guaranteed a sluggish and poorly working computer on a regular basis. Things will slow down that way.
Rebooting clears things up, washes away digital residue that builds up over time, and it builds up quickly. You really should consider doing it. Your life will improve.

@Aronand Some crashes still happen
It's rare but still more frequent than in releases before2.3.x

I attached dump toVB-49802
