Vivaldi uses 80% CPU
-
Thanks @mib2berlin. I have used Vivaldi for years with the exact same tabs open. This issue only started when I moved from Windows 8.0 Pro to Win 10 Pro over the holidays.
Thanks also @lamarca. No, the CPU Usage was just as bad after. In fact, I had to close Vivaldi in the Task Bar, then open it again in order to send the response. Fortunately, Vivaldi remembered what I had written and had also kept the screen shots I had pasted it!
What "tweaks" are you talking about?
John
-
@johnm243 Ouch. Forgot to mention Block Content (I am forced to use one of them - uBlock) should not to be off.
@johnm243 said in Vivaldi uses 80% CPU:

Does it happen frequently? In case you are also having crashes, let us know.
RAM Usage and Temperature? After shuting down have you notice if there are still Vivaldi processes runningAs for the tweaks, we can see it later
I have serious High CPU Usage.
-
@lamarca thanks again. As far as I know, I am not using any tweaks. Here is my command line:
"C:\Users\john\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe" --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end --save-page-as-mhtml
Re closing using Task Bar: after about 5 to 10 minutes, I am using 100% CPU. So the only way to close is using the Task bar. As it always goes to 100% CPU, Vivaldi is totally unusable to me so no crashes due to it.
Re RAM: as you can see from the Task Manager screen shots, Vivaldi is using nearly 3 GB of RAM on my system.
Re processes after shutdown: not sure, I will look at that some time when I have time to test Vivaldi again.

-
@johnm243 Are you running any extensions? And when you changed to Win10 - did you change machines?
-
-
-
@johnm243 And did you install Vivaldi newly on the new Win10 drive without using your prior profile folder?
-
@Ayespy His CPU is at 100%, unless you have a secret, I tried all the options, except the Stand Alone.
Edit: I lost his comment about the HDD.
-
@johnm243 said in Vivaldi uses 80% CPU:
and I figured it was time to install Win 10!
That's the right decision. Please, let us how did you manage to solve big issue.
Cheers
-
@lamarca thanks. I will try that uninstall. FYI, the computer only runs at 100% CPU when I run Vivaldi. The rest of the time, the computer runs normally...
@ayespy re "And did you install Vivaldi newly on the new Win10 drive without using your prior profile folder?": yes, I was able to recover some important config info from my Macrium Reflect image backups, but other than config info, all installs were new.
-
@johnm243 You are welcome.
What you must backup
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/full-reset-of-vivaldi/#backup -
@lamarca thanks again. I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted. Same thing: uses from 30% to over 50% CPU, over 2.3 GB memory.
-
You are welcome.

I am not sure, did you fix the resource hog?
-
@lamarca said in Vivaldi uses 80% CPU:
did you fix the resource hog
Vivaldi is the resource hog, has not been fixed.
-
@johnm243 We do everything to fix the recourse usage. Never seen any report like yours. Vivaldi permanently consuming over 80%.
In absence of any suggestion, have a look at the GPU (typevivaldi://gpu
in the address bar to see all the info)
The specialist in GPU is @Gwen-Dragon. She will be online later - her local time is 2:40am.
Sorry for the all the inconveniences. -
@johnm243 Here it is not a resource hog, with any version on any of my many machines. That's not to say it's not happening to you, but to fix it the developers have to understand it, and to understand it, more data is needed.
Possible causes for resource hogging are:- incompatible GPU
- bad GPU drivers (or bad drivers of any kind)
- problematic extensions
- corrupted profile
- session containing a crashed and toxic page
- 3rd party security software
- corrupted or overly large sync data
- possibly more
If you will work with the mods, we will try to help you suss out what is happening.
-
@lamarca & @Gwen-Dragon - I ran vivaldi://gpu as requested. Results below, hope you can figure out how I can get my Vivaldi back!
Thanks,
John

@Ayespy & @lamarca - I know it isn't a resource hog generally, otherwise every single posting here would be about it. My guess is that there is a driver issue with Windows 10 on my ASUS M11 (this machine) and my Lenovo X220 laptop.
Thanks for your help, I have posted the results from vivaldi://gpu and tagged @Gwen-Dragon...

@Gwen-Dragon said in Vivaldi uses 80% CPU:
Did you try after a profile reset, i.e. with no installed extensions and changes of Vivaldi settings?
Using the instructions I was given, I uninstalled Vivaldi, rebooted the computer, reinstalled it, rebooted again. That did not fix the issue.
