Vivaldi 2.3 introduces Auto-Stacking in Tabs, addresses the Address Field and more
-
Hi, did you plan implementing extended panel width feature?
-
@ian-coog: Exactly thank you!
-
With unfixed
VB-48537
+VB-48538
it looks like typos in some languages... -
Thanks for listing the changes in categories, makes it much clearer
-
Couldn't resist to install the new version. Thanks to all the developers, testers, sopranos and volunteers helping to let the project grow.
-
The Auto-Stacking Tabs feature is great, very useful! Thank you for finally defining a name template for screenshot files.
-
Strange, Vivaldi won't detect a new version. When I check, I just get the latest RC2 (2.3.1440.37) but I think Final is .41?
-
@Pathduck Snapshots don't update to Stable and viceversa.
-
@iAN-CooG They don't? Ok it's been a while since 2.2 I guess. No matter, I will wait for next Snapshot then
Would be nice to know what changed between RC2 and Stable though.
-
Happy Birthday Vivaldi!

You can compare the changelogs youserself:
2.3 RC2: https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/vivaldi-2-3-rc-2-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1440-37/
2.3 Stable: https://vivaldi.com/blog/auto-stacking-tabs/That would require a lot of guessing, there's no way to make diff from last SS changelog and stable 2.3 changlog to know what changed in a couple of days. My bet is that .37 just got rebuilt with new icon and new version -> "stable". We'll check for more fixes in next SS (next week as usual)

I think it is clear what an "Active Tab" is but I'm still struggling to understand what exactly the definition of being "Related Tab(s)" is.

@goedl: Take a look at this blog post, it explains it in part: https://vivaldi.com/blog/new-tab-opening-closing-behavior-vivaldi/

This browser is my go-to on my Raspberry Pi 3b+. Firefox in the repos is out of date, but Vivaldi is pretty close to Chrome with updates. Plus, it's pretty efficient on such a low end device. Much better than Chromium. Even though I prefer Firefox, this browser sure shows promise. And despite the ARM builds being marked as unsupported, they work fine. Media plays, too, which I couldn't get with the Chromium snap app. Reminds me of the old Opera which would run on anything. Keep up the good work, Vivaldi team!

VB-47598 still here.
UPD: I had bug with browser UI which causes titlebar background image to be rendered incorrectly. I believe it was caused by zero-copy rasterization which was enabled in chromium flags. Restoring default state of this flag solved problem. I also had problems with some bootstrap components like menus, it had partially invisible background. -

I'm no power user, but am really pleased with this release.
Auto-Stacking the tabs is ace and have already added frequent sites in to my search results.
Working nicely.
I must admit thought that I'd never used the capture page function or was even aware of it.
Having seen an update to it in the release notes and love it.
Easy to pick an option, it retains those options for next time and is very quick to save & show a file.I'm also super happy that we can now view passwords in the privacy tab.
Not sure why it wasn't included previously.Well done all.

Thanks. I see that two months ago I already made a comment on that thread but at that time the "auto-stacking" was not yet implemented. That's why I (again) wanted to understand the mechanics.
To reiterate my confusion:- I would need to "see" that a relation between tabs exist
- The tabs I keep are growing dynamic. Having eg two sibling tabs and putting each in different tab stacks they seem still being related and every operation concerned with related tabs leads to erratic behavior.
So I will continue to set "New Tab Position" to "After Active Tab"
But it would be nice to have the possibility to open links as additional tabs in a stack together with the active tab or even more flexible to select the tab or tab stack the new tab should be added to (maybe in the right-click menu).
I will make a feature request.

Favicons seem to have gotten significantly larger in 2.3. I decided to compare them myself, and the previous version loaded the favicons at 18px, while 2.3 loads them at 20px. That's nearly a 25% increase in area.
What's weirder is that inspecting them with the console indicates that they should be 18px, but after carefully measuring them they are actually 20px.
Using it on macOS 10.14.3

I'm not sure why but on my Mac auto-stack isn't working as well as the close window confirmation. I could be doing something wrong. Any ideas before I submit a bug report?
