Tab background images...
-
Please add an option for custom "tab background images". With separate options for active tab, background tab, and tab bar background. Similar to the existing "window background image" setting, but for tabs.
[bug reported VB-77401]

I think with custom css mods, we're a close as well ever get to this kind of deep customisation. It's a very niche feature.
You could check out the modding section of the forum to get help with this.

vivaldi has already officially added background image customization for the tab bar background. my request is the logical next step.

Moved to Tabs category.

@TsunamiZ fair enough. Its worth making the request, but if you're impatient for it to be implemented, using a mod is a quick workaround (if a bit tricky to get to grips with).

Even in Opera 12.18, all custom skins were provided by users. It took a lot of work to create a skin from scratch. Only two that I know of were created by Opera Software: the Classic and Standard skins.
There are now over 1,500 Feature Requests in this forum.
After a year, 77 are now tagged as DONE.
Long story short, don't wait for this. If you really want it, start learning how to apply CSS mods.
For General Interest to see what is involved in Skinning
This is the internal structure of a typical Opera Skin file. To modify a skin one added or changed some images and edited skin.ini to suit, then zipped the skin up again.

a concern i have with custom CSS modding is that it might break something later with future updates, or future updates can cause the modding to be lost. that is why i prefer to have more officially supported theme customization options.
also, vivaldi's skin is dynamically colored, so i'm guessing the old school opera way of editing images from a .zip file no longer applies for vivaldi's skin.

@TsunamiZ Exactly right, Opera skins are obsolete and have nothing to do with Vivaldi, and yes, modifications disappear on update. But Pesala is right, for the time being it's your only option. And I do agree with LonM, that's deep customization only few would ever need. Personally I believe it's not a logical next step.
