In order users to know that this video pop-outing exists natively into Vivaldi, the function should be put into foreground for easier and quicker access. Fews know that double-clicking over videos makes to appear browser context-menu. Please add an icon, shown when mouse hovers, that launches pop-out directly and why not a right-click over it could call the browser video context menu.

      Example :

Another option would be to give a button that appears to the right of the address bar every time a video can be viewed with PiP (similar to how we are already offered a reader view button for tabs where it is useful).

Something similar can already be done with the following extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg

But this can't be for a page with several videos.

@Seasonly @Al-tair I myself have never encountered a page where there was more than one video in display, so a button on the address bar would suffice for me. Then again this is Vivaldi and there doesn't have to be one single way of implementing where the popup button should appear; options is what's so great about this browser.

I hope this icon, too. And I think it is better that this is this feature's button like Opera.

      Opera's PiP Button↓↓
      alt text

      P.S.
This feature can add to Vivaldi by UserScript Extension. I tried this. I could do PiP button showed on the top of video.

And When I used this userscript, I could do PiP on Netflix!

When I open a video in Youtube and active the subtitle (close caption) this is not appear in PiP, why?

See the picture, the video with black screen with the subtitle and the PiP with the video without subtitle.

@versuri The default implementation of PiP applies to just the raw media element - in this case the video stream. For the subtitles to show up as well, youtube would need to do further development to support it.

      @versuri There's a feature request asking just that: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/31820/subtitles-in-picture-in-picture
      Might consider voting for it.

@LonM There might be something else to do yes. However, Opera's implementation of PiP does support subtitles, so it doesn't look like the burden is all on Youtube's side...

I was quite annoyed at the PiP implementation in Vivaldi coming from others which have done it better. If there's something in the pipeline coming from Chromium, then i guess it makes sense not to waste dev time on doing it when it's going to happen anyway. But if not, then it'll be nice if the PiP functionality is improved.

An icon of some type that shows on videos able to be PiP'd would be great, especially when you're in a forum where there may be multiple videos linked and the PiP extension sometimes doesn't PiP the correct one.
Also video controls, and volume/mute (Using the mute all tabs option doesn't mute PiP videos)

From my side I have no more PIP video on the last version, only a black screen, so I can't test your code, I let the other users to try with their configuration until the bug will be corrected.

@skjerns said in Icon for Picture in Picture (video in floating window):

Any tip on getting that script to work?

I played around and it wouldn't do what i expected or gave errors about GM_addStyle not defined.

Was trying to run it via the console.

This icon showed on Vivaldi latest snapshot 2.11.1811.3. I'm happy! Thank you for adding this feature. 😃

We really need downvote feature BACK. And this PiP-shitstorm would not have happened in the first place.
