The gig is up, the My Opera forum is down, the new forum is still forbidden, there is a nachspiel

@Dacotah:
I am logged in to My Opera and tried to leave a comment on the closing page and it wouldn't let me, took me to another page. lol
I was trying to find the New Opera Forums page link someone left in the comments.
The page that it went to had a link in it so I clicked it, the page showed up for a second https://forums.opera.com/ then I get:
"Could not connect to remote server…"Yes… it's a Catch-22 for users outside of Europe (apparently). Unless you delete your Opera SSO log-in cookies, that's what you get the moment you visit the new forum pages. The Opera server for those pages immediately pings your browser, finds those cookies, and in some way refuses to allow connection. Get rid of both log-in cookies, and you can immediately connect to the new forums - but you can't comment or start a thread, since you're not logged in.

Sad to lose memories of almost 10 years

And sadly the spammers seem to have taken over the new Opera forums, quite a few spam posts this morning. Not a good sign.
-
Not like I can get there to help clean it up …
And yes, they are aware of the issue. They asked me to help moderate the new forums, I said sure ... though I'd have to be able to log in first. They said they were working on it. But that was a couple of days ago now ...

Wasn't spam the mainly pretended reason for shutting down the old forums?
Why don't they simply shut down the new forums too?Resembles perfectly to many other double-tongued statements we heard from Opera ASA since they changed direction.

Hahaha… lol
That new opera forum looks BORING!
That sterile blue design is quite awful.Funny by the way, if you have blocked Amazons cloudfront in Opera V12 with a blocking-statement like http://cloudfront.net, the page doesn't even load at first an is completely broken.
Only after I remove that line and reload, I can view the page.One more reason to stay away... :pinch:

There doesn't seem to be a report button yet, at least I couldn't see one.
The new forums aren't very inviting, 'sterile' is an apt word. I'm reminded of many years ago when my favourite newspaper got a new editor, changed it so much I drifted away from it. -
Eleven years of memories for me. Very sad.

@Dacotah:
Thank you Blackbird. I'm sorry I don't know how to delete the SSO log-in cookies.
Well, deleting the SSO cookies (which is what they're called in Firefox) would only allow you to read the new Opera forums, but still not actively participate… so that method only offers a limited (read-only) solution. In any case, usually if your browser has a cookie manager, you can get at editing or deleting the individual cookies through that. The cookies involved are the session "secure" login-related cookies/tokens. In the case of Old Opera (12.16 or below), try: Menu > Tools > Advanced > Cookies (which opens Opera's cookie manager) > look for (+) my.opera.com and expand it by clicking the "+" symbol... the log-in cookies in an Opera browser are: opera_session and opera_ssl. In Firefox, the cookies are named SsoSession and SsoToken. Either way, you can simply delete them to get rid of them.
If not Old Opera, what browser are you using?
-
Until Monday, the easiest way is to visit the old forum and sign out - at least, with a desktop browser. Sign out is listed under the wrench icon on the far right. On a tablet or phone where you can't activate the dropdown menu … I'm really not sure. Okay, it's there at the top of the page you get sent to, so that works too. But again, you can't post while logged out, so ...

Eleven years of memories for me. Very sad.
The memories are still up there at the Internet Archive (as long as that stays up).
Like I said at the My Opera Nachspiel they have archived 60% of the content there (that may even be a low estimate). Since we put up content not to save space on the harddisk, but for it to be seen online, this is currently the best bet.
If there are any pages not there you might want in the future, you should archive them now (I assume you have downloaded your own files, otherwise right now may be your very last chance).
There should be a complete list of forum messages (except for closed groups and deleted threads). More info at the DnD Sanctuary, but that is unlikely to come online.
Personal blogs seems to be all archived, but group blogs might not. If you have interest in any group you should have a last look. Anything you think is worthwhile and missing, archive it http://web.archive.org/ ("Save Page Now")
For future memories I hope Vivaldi will reach or surpass what we've had so far…

I just noticed there is no Opera Mail board. One more reason to believe OS ASA isn't interested in working on the mail client any further and version 1.0 is the last one.
-
They appear to have fixed the login issue, generally. I cleaned up for company, but don't expect it to stay that way - there appear to be some very prolific Vietnamese spammers, and I don't seem to have a ban option any more (hopefully that will be changed). Also note, they don't seem to have imported anything from my old profile (I'll have to see if I can find my avatar again).

They are not interested in desktop browser to begin with.

@AngiesDOM:
Opera Mail client development seems to be suspended since months.
Opera Mail is basically truncated Opera 12.
They even threw out mouse gesture (one of the reasons why i am using Opera's Mail client for everyday mailing) -
Yeah, right from when they released Opera Mail I didn't see any point in installing it instead of just using Opera 12, even if you don't use it as a browser.
It's kind of sad. Opera left us with a new browser and a new mail client. Both are worse than Opera 12.
