"Show Popup Thumbnails" option hides switcher on tab groups
-
In settings you can disable tab popup thumbnails, but it also disables tab switcher popup on tab groups.
It would be nice to retain tab switching functionality, while having more compact tab titles in popup.
Basically, I want "Show Popup Thumbnails" to act on tab groups like that while being off:
and like this when on (it is like this right now, added image just for comparison):
-
up? i thought that is a more common problem, because it's daunting to navigate through huge table of similar images and small titles.
-
@cab404 Either it does not trouble others, or the issue description is not clear enough.
- Is the problem the thumbnails on tab groups? I cannot use tab stacks without them. If you find that the window fills with thumbnails then use smaller groups of tabs.
- Is the problem with the large number of thumbnails when tab cycling? If so, enable Settings, Tabs, Tab Features, Display Tab Cycler as List
-
@Pesala I meant the first problem, and I don't think that everybody has the problem with tab groups. But I do, I have tens of articles, sorted by site in them, and this is why I written this post. And I don't ask for making it the only available option, only to fix seemingly invalid "Show Popup Thumbnails" option, making it switch between version with thumbnails and just a simple list with titles in tab group popup too.
-
I don't use tab stacks very often, but an option to "show tab (popup) previews only on tab stacks" will be nice.
-
@Hadden89 But that's different, or not?
-
I don't see what the problem is. In the latest versions, the Thumbnails are displayed in the Tab Cycler even if the Popup Thumbnails are disabled, and if the tabs are shown as a list. Has something changed over the last 7 months?

@potmeklecbohdan
Maybe, but disabling "popup thumbnails" actually disable the switcher even on tab stacks (where it's useful).
I also don't use tab cycler.
While is not exactly what I meant in my post, also this request is logical.
I'm unsure if do a new request for what I written in previous post, as is quite close to this one. -
@Pesala "Tabs > TAB DISPLAY > Tab Options: Show Popups Thumbnails"
is a completely other option than
"Tabs > TAB FEATURES > Tab Cycling: Show Tab Cycler"@Hadden89 is right, the option to "Show Tab Thumbnails for Tab Stacks Only" is missing to make tab stacks work without having to use the:
- tab cycler (Only a limited amount of tabs visible, having to key press multiple times, becomes tedious with e.g. 30 tabs)
- scroll wheel (which my trackball doesn't have)
- keyboard (can't jump directly to a tab in the tab stack, need to press the key again and again)
- having to hover and press the really tiny tab stack switches at the top. (Fitts's law violation)
in comparison:
Hover over stack > move to thumbnail > click to open a certain tab from the tab stack. -
@QuHno You do not need to press the keyboard shortcut multiple times. Press and hold Ctrl+Tab, then click the desired tab in the list.

@Pesala said in "Show Popup Thumbnails" option hides switcher on tab groups:
@QuHno You do not need to press the keyboard shortcut multiple times. Press and hold Ctrl+Tab, then click the desired tab in the list.
Can't read or stop that fast, the cycling speed it much to high on my computer and it is dependent on some other settings (e.g. doesn't necessarily need to switch in the same order)
-
@QuHno The tabs do not cycle on Pressing Ctrl+Tab, and keeping the Ctrl Key held down.
-
@Pesala The repetition rate is too high.
Try that with 50 or more tabs so that not all can be displayed inside of the cycler - the tab cycler changes it focus much to fast and the list or the visual tabs are constantly moving much to fast to see anything. I can't stop at the right tab fast enough - on average I am 4-6 further than the tab I want to be and then have to Ctrl+Shift+Tab+Tab... again to to go back to the tight tab.
-
@QuHno Press Ctrl, keep it down, press and release Tab, keep Ctrl still down, click on the tab you want to switch to.
