Vivaldi opening from a link in a PDF file
-
I'm not sure if this is just in Linux or not, I can't test. If I've got a pdf with a link in it, and I click on said link, I don't go there. I get an error popping up in Evince: Failed to execute child process “/usr/bin/vivaldi-stable” (Permission denied)
I have execute permissions on both the symlink (/usr/bin/vivaldi-stable) and it's target (/opt/vivaldi/vivaldi) so I'm not sure what ails it. If, in my Cinnamon GUI tool, I swap Firefox to be the default browser, things are fine.
I'm on Ubuntu 18.04, running Cinnamon, and using Vivaldi 2.2.1388.37.

Vivaldi is able to open PDF on the Web.
Alt+P >> Webpages see if "Enable Internal PDF Viewer" is ckecked

No, this is the other way around. I have a local PDF with a link in it to a website. My browser (Vivaldi) should fire up. It tries, just not sure why it fails with a permission error.

Well, Atril will work then. I don't like the new Evince "menu ruckus" anyway... It might be nice for Vivaldi devs to look into it, but I'm fine with a different viewer.
Thanks Gwen-Dragon!

Fellow Mod:) out of curiosity, why do run apparmor?
-
@Gwen-Dragon Apparmor should be disable by boot time parameter. Why do you need it?
-
I did not. Long story short, I got sidetracked with other stuff, but now I'm back dorking wtih PDFs again. Oddly enough, I Googled (well, DuckDuckGo-ed) and landed here. I'd totally forgotten I even started this thread.
Going to do it now, although I can still affirm I don't like the Evince menu thing going on now. I'd forgotten to use a different PDF viewer too...

Hi there,
I had exactly the same problem with Evince and it drove me nuts.
Finally, found a solution:
- Open /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/ubuntu-browsers.
- Add a new line at the really end (# some unpackaged, but popular browsers):
/usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot -> sanitized_helper, - Restart & Enjoy opening links within a PDF in Evince with Vivaldi.
Now it works like a charm!
Hope, I could help you.
Have a nice Sunday & stay at home!

@Gwen-Dragon They refused to solve it, not the Ubuntu I remember:-/: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1813339?comments=all

Though thanks for pointing out the existence of Atril. It is apparently a fork of Evince before they crippled it. I always loved its customizable toolbar. Oh, GNOME used to be good...
