No sound in Vivaldi
-
I've just switched from Firefox (where sound works correctly) to Vivaldi and would love to work full-time with Vivaldi, but...
The distro I'm using is Void Linux 64 bit.I've read part of the megathread that is pinned above, but still get no sound in Vivaldi, nor in Chromium, for example when thrying to watch a youtube video. Here's what I did:
- started
vivaldi-stable &
, - ran the command
curl https://launchpadlibrarian.net/394835580/chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_70.0.3538.77-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_amd64.deb |\ tail -c+1075 | tar xJ -C ~ --wildcards \*libffmpeg.so --xform 's,.*/,.local/lib/vivaldi/,'
- alsamixer have no mutted output channels
- pavucontrol shows nothing about vivaldi.
- chromium-widevine package is installed
- ffmpeg, fdk-aac, and other codecs are installed
- the tab sound is not mutted
- the youtube sound controller is not mutted
Don't know what else to do. Would appreciate some help on this.

Hi @Gwen-Dragon,
The only extension is cVim.
I can hear no sound in the link you provided. The H.264/MP4 is not accessible at all. The place of the video is just a black rectangle with some controls. The videos play fine for the other two formats but no sound, either in normal or private mode.
The errors I see when vivaldi is started as
vivaldi-stable &
are (all the output):No suitable library for HTML5 proprietary media (MP4[H.264/AAC]) was found, therefore only open codecs will play. To add support for proprietary media, issue the following command and restart Vivaldi: curl https://launchpadlibrarian.net/394835580/chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_70.0.3538.77-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_amd64.deb |\ tail -c+1075 | tar xJ -C ~ --wildcards \*libffmpeg.so --xform 's,.*/,.local/lib/vivaldi/,' [11005:11005:1227/203237.198993:ERROR:platform_thread_posix.cc(128)] pthread_create: Invalid argument (22) [11005:11005:1227/203237.199049:ERROR:shutdown_signal_handlers_posix.cc(199)] Failed to create shutdown detector task. It complains about the support for proprietary media, but I've already issued the
curl
command, to no success it seems. That command has something aboutlocal/lib/vivaldi
. My installation is on/opt/vivaldi
. Is is something to consider? -
@Gwen-Dragon Usually, I use a USB audio card. Can't still year any sound through it.
But, I tried the internal audio jack and it's working. The problem has changed. I'd still prefer to have sound through the USB audio card as the speakers are far from the internal audio jack.
Is there a way to have the sound output from the USB audio card? Is it something that can be configured in Vivaldi or something about the operating system? -
