Search field history no longer works after upgrade to 2.2.x

I only use the dedicated search field (search in address bar is disabled) and since recent upgrade to 2.2.x the search history is always empty, regardless what I enter there. By "empty" I mean that after searching something > close browser > restart browser > there is nothing there, just a grayed dropdown arrow on its right side.

Now that you mention it, I'm seeing something like that, too, upon bringing up the browser.
If you start typing there, however, search history should show.

Still works for me, what I search(ed) in search field gets in the search history, and reappears after closing/reopening Vivaldi.
Try temporarily renaming your profile Default directory, after closing Vivaldi: it could be something got corrupted.
I had to do it myself some days ago - for the 1st time after 3 years of updates - because Vivaldi kept constantly crashing.
You can always rename the old default dir back to Default to return to your old profile.

@iAN-CooG That would be a pretty coincidental corruption! The workaround is trivial, so even if it turns out not to be a bug appearing in some cases, I can live with it.

Just saying, I had to rebuild my profile AGAIN after 1 week as I got random crashes while DOING NOTHING else than watching a YT video. And all I did since last time was to update from snapshot to the 2.2 "stable" (quoting is needed)
So far everything seems back to normal, but only an hour has passed. -
That sounds bad.
On this issue, I see that it happens with my "on the side" Vivaldi too, the one on the dev track, and those two installations are separate.
I think rather than corruption it's situational--it depends on some other setting/default that you don't have and we do, or vice-versa.

Here is working for me, bro. Check your config. Sometimes i got confused on some parts and lose utile features, hehe

Have a look at "Alt+P >> Search. -
It's unrelated to suggestions. Just to describe this issue better, this is what it is specifically:
The down arrow to the right of the dedicated search field is inoperable until one character or more is typed into the search field. Doing that is the only way to see previous searches using that search field.
This only need be done once per session.

I can't repro the issue. In cased you are having the same problem, I suggest to report a bug, you will be given a number (VB-999999), please, post here for our follow up.
