Clone Tab in Background
-
"Clone tab in background" option in the right click menu, or after double clicking on tab (or such option in Settings).
In most cases I clone tabs just to have them for later. -
+1
I love to have it open in background too. -
@Gregor I am not sure why we need this because if one clones a tab the original tab is now in the background.
(Note that the position of the cloned tab can be set to "Next to Original Tab" in Settings, Tabs).
However, if Ctrl+Click on "Clone Tab" worked as I would expect it to work, and opened the cloned tab in the background, that would avoid adding yet another item to the already far too long context menu.
-
I meant that cloned tab would be in the background, not the original tab.

I know, that's why I wanted it as an option. Ctrl+click is also good.

A cloned tab is identical, so what difference does it make which is in the background and which is in the foreground? That's what I meant. If it confuses you, just move the now active cloned tab left with Ctrl+Shift+PageUp.

It may make a difference, depends on your interactions with the page. For instance, if you hit Reply on this page and start typing some text and then clone the tab, the cloned tab will not show the text you were writing.
So they may indeed be/look different and, therefore, it may make a difference for some people which one ends up being the active tab.

One click less. Only this.
-
@Gregor But you could leave the original tab for later and continue working in the cloned tab. No extra click is required.
-
Yes, but:
- I don't want to change the tab position in the tabbar
- sometimes I can't do this due to page restrictions, like mentioned by pauloaguia

The latest snapshot changelog adds this feature - "Clone tab in background option"
-
@LonM I cannot find this option.
-
@Pesala It is tied to the "New Tab from Link Opens in Background" setting.
-
@LonM quite a hidden feature if not explained better in the setting description.
-
I think it works like this:
- if "New Tab from Link Opens in Background" is disabled, right clicked links have "Open Link in New Background Tab" and cloned tabs open in front.
- if "New Tab from Link Opens in Background" is enabled, right clicked links doesn't have "Open Link in New Background Tab", "Open Link in New Tab" works in background and cloned tabs open in background.
So the function could be named more like "New Tab from Links and Cloning Opens in Background" or some shorter more accurate way.
Anyway thanks for the feature after 2 years. -
Now released in 3.5 - "Clone tab in the background"
