Opening new page using Start Page
-
When new window is opened with new empty page (Start page) bookmark is opened in new tab ignoring Start page. Same situation when open some page in the background - Start page not used.
Instead it could use this empty tab which is closed manually anyway. -
This is so obvious!
Start page should no count as a page, everything you open should use that tab instead a new one, even if you activate the "always in new tab" option.

So, when I have the Start Page open in the Foreground and I click a bookmark, I don't want a "new tab" to open, I want the Bookmark to open in the "blank page" I have open already.
It's irritating for me having a pointless tab open that I then have to close.
Of course, if the Start Page is "pinned" then obviously it shouldn't be replaced.Personally I think this should be the "default" functioning of Vivaldi instead of a setting as I've enjoyed for over 20 years with MyIE2, Maxthon, and 360Chrome, but maybe someone doesn't want the Start Tab to be replaced? Of course, I would think if they didn't they would just "PIN" the page instead.
Thanks

@leeuniverse As far as I can tell, it is the default behavior to open the start page bookmarks in the start page tab.
Perhaps you changed the setting
Open Bookmarks in New Tab
under theBookmarks
section of Settings? -
@leeuniverse As nomadic said, it is already the default behaviour, in Settings, Bookmarks, to disable:
Open Bookmarks in New TabPinned Tabs behave the same way as regular tabs. Bookmarks will normally open in pinned tabs unless the above setting is enabled.

@nomadic @Pesala ... Hey guys, thanks for responding.
Well, while I do see it is the "default" behavior in the sense if no settings are changed, it's NOT "default" behavior in another sense, because I DO want my bookmarks to open in a new tab UNLESS it's the Start Page... So, I want the default behavior to remain when it comes to the start page.
In other words, I don't want opening bookmarks to overright pages I'm looking at, but I DO want them to replace the Home/Blank/Start Page because there's simply no point to have it open.
Basically, this is something I've gotten used to for some 25 years with Maxthon and 360Chrome, and it's irritating have to click to close an extra open tab that serves no purpose.
So, I guess what I'm asking is for when we have selected the setting to open bookmarks in a new tab, for the Start Page to KEEP it's "default" behavior of when it's open the bookmark opens in that page instead of creating a New Tab.
Thanks guys...

@pafflick ... Hey, could you put this thread in MY thread I just created? Or "retitle" the thread?
The "wording" on the Title of this thread as well as the post itself is NOT as "clear" as it could be. There's no way I could have found this thread in the wording that's used.
Thanks

@pesala it is already the default behaviour, in Settings, Bookmarks, to disable:
Open Bookmarks in New TabDisabling this option causes only opening bookmarks in the current tab, no matter if it is start page or some website. This way you can open a bookmark in the current tab with the site already open, so you replace her. But the point of this topic is to replace only start pages that are not used.
The subject of this feature request concerns the use of empty start pages for open page by double-clicking (rather not the middle click used to open pages in the background), regardless of whether it is a bookmark, history entry, link from notes, etc.
It is only for discussion which start pages the browser should use, if there are more than one already open, and in what order (e.g. from left to right, only the most right etc), these can also be as the options. -
