Image compression when uploading
Did the recent forum update change anything in regards to image compression (when uploading)?
I was going to post my theme to the "Post your color scheme"-thread, but ran into a quite annoying issue. My image was 1920x1080@453KB before I uploaded it. Afterwards it had been downsized (no issue with that) and compressed to 720x412@27KB! It looks absolutely awful because of all that compression.
The previous post in that same thread has an image at 720x412@430KB and looks clear as day.
The upload generates a reduced preview in forum and if you click on it you get the larger one.
Can you please report that as a bug to let us investigate internally?
Please reply to the bugreport mail, attach preview forum image (context menu 'Open Image in new tab' and save the image) and linked image.
Please read how to Report a bug for Vivaldi carefully and then report the bug to Vivaldi bugtracker.
@Gwen-Dragon Ah, okay. So what I saw was only the preview version (which looks quite bad). Clicking on the image does open the full-size, uncompressed version in all its glory.
Please report this issue as a bug.
@Gwen-Dragon It's not compressed too much. It is resized to fit the forum, then compressed at an estimated JPG quality of 60, which is fine for most photos.
There is no method that I know of to make sure that all images look good when compressed. Seascapes look fine at low quality, while other images need medium or high quality to look decent.
I'm fine with it the way it is as long as a non-compressed version is available (which is the case). Downsizing was never a problem for me as 760x412 is perfectly fine for the purpose of showing something (as opposed to sharing something).
@Pesala I tried this in Photoshop, resized to 760×412 and saved compressed to Q60.
Result was better than forum.
Forum preview looks like Quality is 10 or 20!
@Gwen-Dragon When I compress to 60% in paint .net I get the same result as the forum.
