Pinned tabs losing login upon syncing, after 1.15>2.0 upgrade
-
I manually sync certain Vivaldi files/folders, from default, between two computers. Pretty much the same files/folders one would save if creating a new profile. This has worked fine until I "upgraded" from 1.15 to 2.0.
Now, after syncing, all pinned tabs on receiving computer, have to be logged into again. iow, syncing logs out of pinned tabs on receiving computer. They are always the same pinned tabs, on both computers.
Any idea what has changed from 1.15 to 2 cause this to happen? Is there another file/folder that I now need to sync? Or not sync?I am currently syncing:
Bookmarks – contains bookmarks and information from Speed Dials.
Notes – notes taken in the Notes Panel.
Sessions – saved tabs sessions.
Login Data – website passwords.
Preferences and Local App Settings\mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli – Vivaldi settings and configuration.
Web Data – autofill data.
Current Session – data on open tabs.
Current tabs
History – website history.
Cookies – website data.
last session
last tabsThanks

@astro46 Login Data is not designed to be manually synced. Doing so might cause some problems, it occurs to me.

ok. Login data may not be designed to be manually synced. nevertheless, it was working fine before the 2.0 install. question, really, is about functioning. before I spend hours adding or subtracting different files or folders and combinations of files and folders, to see if I can fix the problem I thought it would be better to ask, since someone who knows more about Vivaldi may have a suggestion of what to try.
any suggestions? anyone?

Not sure how that is possible. It is not transferable between machines, except through export and import. It is encrypted, and unreadable between machines.

I certainly don't have an explanation for why it was ok then and not now. perhaps it wasn't supposed to be transferable but was, or perhaps something is being transferred now that it is interfering with with the logins functioning after syncing, or something else. I do know what the result is.
Just to be clear, there are 6 pinned sites. the same on vivaldi on both computers. . 3 of them require being logged in. I am logged in on computer A when I sync to computer B. Computer B is now no longer logged in to those sites when it was previously. The same going in the other direction. iow, syncing "logs out" those sites that were previously logged in. I hope that makes the situations cleared, not more confusing.

@astro46 It's clear, but it's not the way Vivaldi and sync are supposed to work. And it's not the way they work here. My sync (multiple versions, multipl machines "just works" here, and every signed-in version, including those signed in on ten (10) pinned tabs stay signed in while synced.

do you have a list of what files/folders are syncing? perhaps there are some I need to add or subtract.

@astro46 Your best clue is vivaldi://sync-internals

I wonder if this is related to being intermittently logged out of discord, which I have in a pinned tab. I've noticed that since about 2.0 on one machine (I. E. Not from moving files about manually).
It seems to happen most frequently when the browser doesn't close in the expected manner.

logged out of discord? what does this mean?
I close all open programs before syncing. The procedure isn't any different from before 2.0.

@astro46 Discord is a messaging website I use. I thought the random logouts might be related, as it seems to have started in a similar time frame to the issues you describe.

Discord cookies could be malformed. The state of discord cookies should affect your other cookies in no way whatever.
If you're looking at files to edit or delete, I would say don't bother. All sync data and tracking, so far as I can tell, is in a single file - and you can't edit it.
Your best bet is to start out again with clean profiles, and stop manually transferring data, if you want to use sync,

I seem to have fixed the problem. After some experimentation, not syncing the Cookies file between computers has allowed login for pinned sites to be maintained. Interestingly, I continue to sync the Login Data file, which I thought would solve the problem if I didn't sync it, but no the problem contined. Also the file is supposed to be encrypted and not usable on a different machine.

@astro46 Whatever works for you, then. I sync cookies through the Vivaldi Sync service, and my various instances of Vivaldi stay logged in to things.
