Not getting asked anymore to save login credentials
-
For about the last 2 months, Vivaldi stopped to ask me to store login credentials, nor does it fill in stored credentials.
I went on to delete everything that's been stored under Settings/Privacy. Vivaldi used to ask me to store the data for the web pages I had no credentials stored but no so anymore.
I then deleted anything related to Vivaldi on my Windows machine, I also went through the registry, but it did not come back to normal life.
Is there any specific place I have to look into or any specific setting that had to be done?
I'm currently on 2.2.1350.4 x64 on Windows7

Did you remove Vivaldi?
-
Yes, as stated.
-
I wanted to make sure, just in case.
Removing Vivaldi doesn't delete the folders. New install is getting some settings from your profile folder.Type
vivaldi://version
on the Address bar to get the profile path, where your prefs are stored. -

vivaldi://version
Been there, done that I also removed anything in the profile path, in vain.

Sorry, I didn't suggest anything, tell how to find the path of your profile folder

@gwen-dragon
Try to update to 2.2.1360.4
done
Check in vivaldi://settings/privacy if 'Save webpage passwords' is activated
It is, it always was
Open internal chrome://settings/passwords
Check if Switch 'Offer to save passwords' in OnIt is
Scroll down, check if you have entries in section 'Never Saved' which blocks saving passwords
That list is empty

@vivaldi-user Your Login Data file is probably corrupted. With a new clean file, the functionality should be restored.
-
@ayespy Can you tell me where to find this file or what the name is/could be? I'd be more than happy to remove it or replace it with a good copy as I have no issues on my W8 or Linux machines.
-
@ayespy
Do you mean this one?
C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Login Data ?I removed everything below C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Vivaldi some couple of weeks ago when I tried to totally remove anything related to Vivaldi on this W7 machine.

@vivaldi-user
Hi, just rename the folder "Default", then you get a fresh profile for testing.https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/10388/refreshing-or-cleaning-your-profile
Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Thanks for the hint. Did so but still no success. Vivaldi does not ask to save the credentials. The only thing that shows up on a subsequent logon to a webpage is the user name which is probably stored in another cache file.
-
Can you see those shots below after inputting the passwd.
The second is smaller
Vivaldi is offering to save the passwd.
Edited.

C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Login Data ?That's the one. Don't try to replace it with one from another machine. Just let Vivaldi build it anew when you re-start the browser.
All of your settings are correct, and I have a Win7 machine here as well, and I can't reproduce the problem. Do you use any extensions or any 3rd party password software?
Have you tried on more than one site? There are some sites that use non-standard popups or dialogues for their password entry, and Vivaldi can't recognize these as being valid places to ask to save password.

There a pattern. If you don't nothing on the grey box, on the next time it you visit the site, it appear on the Address Bar.

I use ublock origin an umatrix for a very long time. No problems with them since I used them. Save Password? pop-up showed up on every new site. I tried without these two, no change.
No 3rd party password software/extension involved. No other extension but those two installed.

It's true for all sites, no matter how the login fields look like.

@vivaldi-user Install a standalone copy of Vivaldi in another directory (you can just name if Vivaldi1 or something, in the Local directory if you want) and see if it works there. If that works, then it's something with your current install. If it doesn't work, something on your system is blocking it.

Not sure what changed, if at all. I did not apply any new Microsoft patches yet but today, Vivaldi started to ask me again if it should save username and password.
I did not reinstall from scratch or anything alike, no extensions added/changed/removed. Go figure.
