Orientation locking option
-
That's self-explanatory. Some browsers offered this option on iOS, don't know if that's the case on Android. In any case, it shouldn't be hard to implement
-
Isn't orientation locking usually done at the OS level?
-
@lonm Yes, it is.
-
@LonM Yes, but some apps offer the possibility to set it for that app alone
-
If there would be a setting to only rotate to landscape for videos and pictures, I see the sense of implementing that on the app level.
But for the standard autorotate / lock orientation setting, I do not see why the system setting is not doing this well enough.

Wouldn't that break the flow of the page sometimes?

I guess it depends on how you use the apps and of personal preference (don't so many things in vivaldi?).
For instance, I have my OS configured to switch orientation according to the way the phone / tablet is being used. This lets me take advantage of the maximum screen space possible when seeing photos, regardless of their orientation (I just flip the device and the photo / video takes up most of the screen).
However, and because my reader app lets me do that, I configured it to always display in portrait, like a book page. This lets me read even when I'm laying on my side, on the couch, for instance, without the page switching orientation on me. -
Isn't fullscreen video overriding the orientation setting anyway? I am not sure about photographs though.

I recently changed my phone, and my new phone runs on Sailfish OS.
Sailfish offers Android emulation, but orientation-lock for Android apps is really, really hard to get.For that reason alone, I consider that the idea I submitted two years ago would be worth it.
