Solved Don't require google play, make APK available
-
When the Android version of Vivaldi browser is released, please make the APK directly available from the Vivaldi web site (or maybe APKMirror). I much prefer "side-loading" than using GP.

We really prefer people get the Android beta from the Play Store, since it will allow you to get automatic updates but for those that can't or won't, here is a download link:
https://vivaldi.com/download/Vivaldi.apk
NOTE: To ensure you get the latest fixes and security updates, I would strongly advise you subscribe to our Newsletter. Alternatively subscribe to the RSS feed on the Vivaldi blog. When a new version comes out, download it and upgrade.

Even better, make a fully open-source browser to release it on F-Droid!
-
@x-15a2 Makes sense, but it will still have to be available on google play nonetheless.
-
@goldnoway Sure that's fine too. I'm not an f-d fan, but I understand that some are, so this would be good too, provided that Vivaldi is comfortable with having their source code built and distributed by a 3rd party.
@luetage Of course, I'm not suggesting that the APK be the only way, it would be necessary to have it on gp. I am asking for the option to make the apk available for those that don't care to use gp.

@x-15a2 Well, alternatively, Vivaldi could have their own F-Droid repository. There are F-D repositories which provide non OS software, after all!
(And besides, that would be great for phones with auto-update enabled for apps downloaded with F-Droid)

Shouldn't be this marked as done?
While preferred, Vivaldi don't require google play and the APKs are on the download page -
@Hadden89 I'll do that just now.
