I have been using an empty start page with a plain background (no speed dials). Suddenly the thought of keeping the Windows Lock Screen (Spotlight) as the item on start page came to my mind. Is that really possible? If the hover info isn't possible, just the wallpaper that changes everyday?

Hmm, I think it might be possible, although I wouldn't count on an official feature regarding this anytime soon. But maybe the community will figure out a workaround - I've got an idea and here's what I've found so far:

      • The wallpapers are stored under %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets (the path is static - meaning, it doesn't change over time)
      • The files are missing file extensions, but fortunately, it doesn't matter for Vivaldi - it accepts valid image files, even if they're missing the file extensions.
      • There are some small files that are not wallpapers (that could be a problem when making the workaround that I have in mind).
      • There's a lot of files, so you'd have to choose the latest image as the background (on each system startup, for example).

Here's what one could try: create a batch file, configure it to autorun on each system startup. The script should choose the latest file from the aforementioned path (basing on the "last modification date" for example), although it should only choose files larger than ~300-400 KB (to avoid those small files that I wrote about earlier). Then the script should make a copy of the file, rename it to something like background.jpg (or whatever you wanna call it) and that's it!

Now, all you have to do is to provide the path to the file within Vivaldi settings and voilà! You've got yourself the Windows Spotlight background image in Vivaldi. It will change each time there is a new wallpaper, although only after a system restart (or after manually running the batch script and probably restarting Vivaldi).

This is an idea, I'm not 100% sure if that's possible, but I'm gonna try it myself if I'll have some time to spare - unless somebody else does this before me or comes up with a better idea. 😛

EDIT: I just did it (though differently), here's my solution.

Maybe you could simply set the Desktop Wallpaper as the background image? I suspect that there are utilities that change the desktop wallpaper according to a schedule.

@pesala I liked the Spotlight thing with the hover info and thought to have it on the start page.
