Dedicated status page for Vivaldi services
-
Many services have dedicated status pages you can check on to see if there are common servicing issues. Examples:
It might be nice to have something similar for Vivaldi, that way users can quickly check a system that auto-updates with any downtime, and with manually added messages from the admin team as necessary.
I put this as a forum feature request, but it could apply to all vivaldi.net services including The forum, blogging platform and sync.
I know that currently notices may be put at the top of forum pages, but these look like they need to be manually added, and require people to know to look on the forum. A dedicated auto-updating status page might be a better place for users to check as a first port of call when they experience issues.

@lonm There's an icon in the Status Bar and a message in Settings.
I don't know what a Status Page would achieve. The message on the forums might prevent a few threads being started by those who do visit the forum, but a status page only duplicates what's already in the Vivaldi UI.
Serif Software has a web-hosting status page, but it's not often up to date.
My site (see my review page in my sig) is running fine, but the status page says that web-hosting is down.
-
@pesala A status page would help the user know if the problem is with the server or their connection. I can't think of any other use though.
-
As one can see, the message at the top of the forum has has no noticeable effect on the number of new threads/posts asking about the status of sync.
-
@pesala And it's been so annoying to me that I've actually hidden it with custom CSS...
-
@pafflick Whenever they use the shadow box on top they also mess up the top margin of our account/user pages (for whatever reason). That's what I'm always fixing with css.
-
@luetage I didn't notice it. I guess I'm not spending too much time on the user's page, but which top margin are you talking about?
-
Spoiler
-
@luetage Oh, so you're talking about the cover images. I must admit, I didn't pay any attention to it, as I didn't notice the change. Still, the reason behind this change remains a mystery...
-
@pafflick No, not the cover images. Part of the cover being hidden is a long standing bug on Vivaldi forum that's fixed in the forum extension (right). What I'm talking about is the top margin of the content (take a look at home/user).
-
Thanks for your request. This is something we're also discussing internally and hope to be able to provide soon.
-
@luetage I thought it might be caused by your custom CSS. Here the margin is significantly smaller than in your screenshot. But as it turned out, actually, there must be something in my custom CSS, that influences the margin. Strangely, I don't even remember ever fiddling with it...
-
@pafflick You changed nothing special. Turns out the content is pushed down by the notification. Hiding it fixes the margin on account pages. Curiously all account pages with exception of the settings page are influenced by this.
Updooded request so we get rid of the notifications. Else Vivaldi devs would have to fix this part of the nodeBB code, which will likely never happen.
-
@luetage I've checked this and you're right. So, we get back to the topic (kind of)...

@LonM
The help tooltips display is horrible, but the page itself is fine.
