I didn't "get" the Vivaldi 2.0 update on Linux for three or four days because I didn't notice it had been installed and the old version was still running.

Please add a persistent notification (that can be dismissed) which says something like "Please restart Vivaldi, a new version has been installed." Firefox has this behavior.

It might also avoid some bugs if the old version tries to load components from the new version that are not backward compatible.

While this might also affect Macs, I don't think it's an issue for Windows where people seem to be having the opposite problem of Vivaldi closing and reinstalling while they're working.

That seems like a contradiction 😉

On Windows I know there is an "update notifier", ideally this could be used across all uprating systems

Vivaldi has an update agent, but I have disabled it, since it always remains resident in memory using resources unnecessarily.
Participating here in the forum I will find out when there is a new update available, so the update agent for me is not necessary..

@lonm What I mean is that the notification won't disappear after some short timeout interval. I want it to be mildly annoying 😉 , but if I need to keep browsing for some reason, I want to be able to manually make it go away. I just want to make it hard to miss.

I've never had such problem with Vivaldi ever and I'm using it since one of the first technical preview builds...

@pafflick Sorry. I almost never use Windows, but I have read quite a few posts where people appeared to be asking for a feature to delay Vivaldi updates on Windows. I'm sure I could have misunderstood those issues.
