@ivan-a-petkov but nothing is written in the stone. Also the native adblocker was tagged as WILLNOTDO years ago

Any news on this? I'm waiting for it to switch from Firefox to Vivaldi on my phone...

uBlock Origin is really useful, is there any feature on mobile Vivaldi that could do something similar? (content blocker so browser don't load in page ads and the likes)

We should request Extensions support for Android at Chromium feedback

@greendotbluebox They're removing MV2 support in desktop Chromium to combat adblockers. No chance would they add extension support to finally make it possible on mobile.

"Google is testing a new version of Chrome for Android with extensions support"

      Never, ever,.... Solved. 🤣
Don't innovate, just follow the stream!

Finally, every major browser will have extensions. Including Vivaldi.

I read somewhere that Google is doing this for Chromebook version of Chrome. I have no hopes about it coming for android chrome... It's too much tracking and ad for Google to give up... I bet it will never come to android chrome engine.

If I had to guess I would put my hopes on another mobile browser getting extensions before android Chrome.

How come Edge, Kiwi, Lemur, and Yandex are all able to support extensions? It must be possible to add extensions on top of the existing Android Chromium. It's too bad this hasn't been added yet. Vivaldi would be the go-to browser I'd recommend to everyone if it was.

Now Kiwi is no longer maintained, unfortunately. 😭

I am again in search for a new good Android browser with:

      • Full Violentmonkey support (using browser extension store)
      • Full Stylus support (using browser extension store)
      • WebDev tools (JavaScript debug console, CSS element inspector, Network inspector, Storage inspector, ...)
      • Copy link text context menu item

(I'm using Kiwi on mobile and Vivaldi on PC)

      Hello,
      welcome here, enjoy the 'Vivaldiverse'.

On a tip, I would like to send you a private message.

This function is activated by default.
You would have to activate it yourself.

      😀 😂

@ingolftopf Alright, I fixed the setting. Send me it whenever you can. If you know how realistic or likely it is to extension support on Vivaldi someday that’d be great. I love this browser on all platforms but the Android version supporting extensions would make it definitively the best browser out there imo.

You can be sure that Vivaldi is working hard on a solution.
They're not sleeping on a tree.
It won't be easy to integrate this into Vivaldi Android.

As always, there is no time line.
It will also be extensively tested internally beforehand.

      It's ready when it's ready.
      As with 'Debian' GNU Linux.

I think Vivaldi is already the best browser ever.

@IceBlueLugia Unfortunately, Vivaldi isn't able to work on an integration for extensions on Android, as mentioned earlier in this thread. It requires too many changes that need to be maintained across Chromium updates for it to be practical for Vivaldi's relatively small team. They experimented with it in the past and determined it wasn't sustainable. They have marked the request as "Will Not Do".

The likely only way Vivaldi will get extension support is if Edge upstreams their support to the Chromium base or it gets developed by the Chromium developers directly.

I significantly needed the Obsidian Web Clipper extension.. so for now, I have downloaded other browsers to use with extensions on my phone((

It's a shame to understand that the development of this functionality does not depend on the Vivaldi team((

@putsan There will be no extensions for Vivaldi Android, which is also clearly indicated in the post title.
      This is a final decision.
So it makes no sense to express wishes on this theme.

      Too bad.
And Kiwi Browser is no longer maintained, now.
I will have to find a new Android browser, like maybe Firefox.
But it lacks WebDev debug tools and Copy link text context menu item...

But once switching to Android Firefox, it's possible that it would make one stop using Vivaldi on desktop altogether, to use Firefox distant tab copy features and shared bookmarks, etc.

Update 21/04/2025: I'm now using Firefox for Android, for Violentmonkey and Stylus extensions, despite the lack of WebDev debug tools and Copy link text context menu item.

I dont get what the problem is to enable manual extension installation, at least with dev/experimental mode.
Same in every browser except Canary it seems.

      Can someone explain?

Since they are all chromium based, why arent we allowed to install whatever extension we want, at our own risk ofc?

@jesus2099 you could try edge canary, it supports tampermonkey. i couldnt find a good dev inspect extension but afaik you can at least try most extensions from their store.

      Thanks @vinnn.
I tried it but you can't use the extension online website.
Firefox is nicer in that regard.
And I found a Copy Link Text extension.
It is very clumsy compared to Kiwi context menu but maybe someday there will be a more streamline feature...
