@bauw Kiwi stayed a lot of time (months) on legacy chromium version because their extension support; vivaldi simply can't implement something which is not natively supported by chromium (and most extensions) due having to respect a deadline: have to patch a major chromium version every 8 weeks and start to prepare for the new one. Harder than it seems. Firefox, on the other side, is not comparable not being chromium.
Easier we may get userscripts soon or later as only depends on webpages content.

@Hadden89 I don't agree with your statement. They all use chromium kernel. If you think it is the problem of inability to expand due to version number upgrade, it is untenable. Maybe you still want to express that the team does not have time to do something. , or as the team said to fix various compatibility issues. But some of the browsers I have come into contact with are still individual developers, so this issue is not the core focus. In addition, the mention of Firefox is just to illustrate the advantages of extensions. I can also say that Monkey Fox can also extend support, and it is not a problem with the kernel version. The community has not closed this post, but the number of user VOTES shows that the demand for this extension is the highest. This Functions will replace some of the built-in functions to bring a better user experience. Such as Grease Monkey and uBlock Origin. This is an extension that many people need. As a user, you do not need the same extended compatibility as the PC version. Shouldn’t the characteristic of vivoldi be its high degree of customization?

Microsoft Edge for Android is getting support for extensions

Firefox, now - Edge. But that won't happen with Vivaldi...

@ivan-a-petkov if Microsoft Edge can put the resources into developing it, and the publish the source code at some point, then vivaldi may be able to reuse this and implement the feature.

As the chromium project that edge is based on its open source, I believe they are obligated to publish code like this.

Adding extensions in the mobile browser is not trivial, without adding a significant maintenance cost.

If Microsoft publish their work, and the maintenance cost was reduced, I would hope this stance would change. But no change for now.

I perfectly understand the entire process of planning and the business logic behind P&L, COGS, turnover etc. When something requires too many resources it is understandable that it not going to happen... now.

What is hard for me to understand is putting limits on what is possible. We live in times of ever-increasing innovation speed. What is impossible today may be possible tomorrow.
As an example, in one of the "Vivadi AI" threads, it is again said that it will not happen...

Philosophical musings aside, I use Vivaldi because it is an innovative and constantly evolving brawser that has offered me functionalities I never even imagined. And I use them. Therefore, it is strange for me to say that something will not happen and to "close" the topic.

There is a chance that mobile extension will happen in Vivaldi.

I have read that the following browsers on Android support this: Yandex, Firefox, Yumian, Kiwi, and Lemur Browser. They might provide valuable information on how to implement this.

If it is possible to implement both Chrome and Firefox extensions, that would be ideal since it would provide more options as not all extensions will work on mobile. That would be a good feature to add on the Desktop client, for that matter, if indeed possible or not achievable with a simple workaround.

@rzjnzk But extensions are not supported in Vivaldi Android, not even in the future, so further such comments are pointless. That's it. Such questions have already been asked too often.

@rzjnzk Time only knows. We have to see if microsoft will make the extension support available to chromium source (but I suspect no) or even if will be promoted to beta/stable stage at all (currently is on alpha/nightly and is behind an experimental flag).
In short, more chromium vendors implements the(ir own) support, more is likely to see an android extension support to the upstream. But not guarantees if this doesn't land on regular chromium/chrome.

@stardepp, the question is which Backdoors leaves EDGE open, with so much DIY and pre-select extensions. I think I prefer to make use of the good number of apps available in F-Droid for security and privacy, which more than make up for the lack of browser extensions, apart from that Vivaldi already has a built-in ad/trackerblocker.

@Catweazle Only browser extensions (like Violentmonkey and Stylus) allow you to improve websites, not apps.
Therefore I've been using Kiwi for years.

Firefox for Android already uses extensions. And guess what: the sky didn't fall in on it. But I'm sure the god of browsers will punish them for this audacity! How dare they!

Honestly, what user wants to use a modern browser that makes him more productive and the work with the browser meets his/her needs?! Nonsense. For example: I don't need my phone's browser to read me the news when I've locked my phone and when I have locked my phone and am listening to the news on my headphones, nor to summarize a text/article for me. This is also the nonsense of spoiled consumers!
