Using custom mods only for one user
-
@pafflick You can't access the :about page this way. There is a chrome.identity api but I don't think it's particularly useful. Maybe you could just read out the name from the status bar if sync is enabled and the user is logged in. If that's possible it doesn't add much overhead, but you would have to inject all css through javascript, the standard custom.css file wouldn't be toggled this way.
It's probably easier to write one batch script for each user and patch up the application each time. In the best case it's just one terminal command each time you switch user. This could be handled in a way that the script already opens Vivaldi, therefore it would be only one step.

But it won't work if the user forgets to open Vivaldi with the right shortcut or if another app calls for the browser to open a web page, am I right? As I said - it'd be too much hassle to maintain this, even if it's technically possible. But hey, I'm not gonna tell @potmeklecbohdan what he should do, I merely just tried to simply answer his question.

@pafflick ^^ You're potentially wrong. OP said that the users are separated by systems. Such a batch script could be run automatically whenever a user logs in – would be fully automatic and you could start Vivaldi however you please, because the installation is already patched when you start using the operating system.

whenever a user logs in
OK, I missed / was unaware of that point. Still, doesn't change the fact that it's a lot of work.

I don't use standalone because of updates
I don't understand. How does the subject of updates affect the use of standalones?
-
@ayespy One user uses the computer only occasionally. So I want to update his installation at the same time with mine (I use it less than once a week, but it's still more often than the second user).
-
@potmeklecbohdan Are you saying that you would not have access to a standalone for the other user to update it because of UAC restrictions?
-
@potmeklecbohdan You haven't told us which operating system you are on. I could only help you with macOS. The general batch scripts are already available for all operating systems, but yeah, you would have to up them to do what you want. Another question: Does the other user really need Vivaldi modifications? Seems like they are using the browser only occasionally anyway. Standard should be fine? No idea, I like mods too much

Hmm, I like my "native" browser anywhere and he likes really native (no mods) browser.
-
@potmeklecbohdan That's why, I see. And yeah, you have a signature, I never noticed I'm using the signature mod from the forum mod which hides all signatures by default, lol. My fault, apologies.

@ayespy No, I say only I don't like non-actual software (even if I don't use it ).
