Solved Bug : Crash when Right-click in a text field or form
-
Hello everyone,
Here is the bug that almost force me to change my web browser, because it crash intantly whatever I do.
Version : 2.1.1317.4 (Official) (64 bits)
OS : Windows 10How to reproduce :
Go in a form (subscription form) or any textarea (like Google Docs)
Right ClickWhat happens :
Vivaldi crash and cannot respond. What it should do :
Open the right click menu.Note : The right click menu works everywhere else without trouble. Tested with and without extensions.

@soyalorea Disabling extensions may not be effective. The guilty extension may have to be removed. You may need to refresh your profile, paying close attention to what happens when you re-add data files such as your bookmarks and, if that doesn't trigger it, then what happens as you re-add extensions, one at a time.
-
@soyalorea Does it crash, or freeze? How many notes do you have?
-
@soyalorea Hmm, it doesn't crash here, in any of the forms and textareas that I tried...
Tested in Vivaldi Snapshot 1322.4 (64-bit) on Windows 10 ver. 1803, x64.Any particular reason why you use the beta version (which is called here: "Snapshot") of the browser instead of the Stable one?
-
@pafflick It will freeze if you have some tens of thousands of notes.

tens of thousands
Seriously, with such an amount of notes, the Notes functionality itself would become completely unusable to me, and you're complaining about it freezing Vivaldi? I have literally no idea how one could end up with such a huge amount of notes and still be able to use them.
Anyway, I just added "a couple" of notes, extending the
Notes
file from 46 KB (all I actually need for everyday browsing) to roughly 65 MB. Still no luck with crashing Vivaldi. Should I extend it even further? -
@pafflick What specifically was happening was that sync was replicating notes that had no titles, up to tens of thousands of times. I discovered this when my browser began freezing every time I accessed context menu in text fields (context has to load all notes in case you want to paste one). Supposedly this is now handled. But it's not impossible it could still be affecting someone whom it hit in the past, and is now back on sync with the public release.

@ayespy Aha! So, again, I'm the unlucky one - everyone else has the bugs but I have none... Sigh!
-
Sorry for the late answer.
@Ayespy
It crashes. I supposed it's whether caused by extensions or sync.
It also freeze for 120s approx. at startup. Here is the list of extensions currently runned on my Vivaldi :
- Appaer.in screen sharing
- Auto BCC for GMail & Inbox
- Auto Refresh
- ColorZilla
- Emoji Keyboard by EmojiOne (potential cause of my problem ?)
- Fontface Ninja
- Google Translate
- InstaG Downloader
- Imagus
- Keepa - Amazon Price Tracker (Impossible to uninstall it few months ago when tried each extension one by one - could it be linked ?)
- LastPass (Potential cause of my problem ?)
- uBlock Origin
- UltraWide Video
- View Image
- Docs (Chrome App)
At the moment, all of these extensions are disabled, and I still encounter this bug.
I have also A LOT of bookmarks + few links in the side panel.
Last question @pafflick :
I installed snapshots for more updates and to get functionnalities earlier, never came back to "stable" version -

@ayespy Hey ! Thanks for your fast answer !
I check the notes, as you mentionned and... guess what. My only note was multiplicated by 10,000 times !
I search, deleted all synced date, disabled sync, removed the local note file and... IT WORKS ! My Vivaldi is much faster now, and the "form / text area bug" is now solved ! I think the "Add a note" function was the problem, linked to the x10000 notes. -
As a funny thing... My Note file weighted 97MB
