Select Accent Color Manually

  • Hi guys,

I have a suggestion. I would like to be able to change a page color by myself.
Either by color picker or manually for certain webs.
Vivaldi doesn't pick the right color sometimes, that's why.

The feature I'm talking about is accent color from active page for sure.

  • @trimax Just to clarify:-
Do you want the ability to assign accent colour as "site specific"?

Or are you saying there is a bug and this is not a feature request because

Vivaldi doesn't pick the right color sometimes, that's why.

Yes, I want the ability to assign accent colour as "site specific".

Because of the bug I experienced. It used to work well in very early versions of Vivaldi.
So far I noticed the problem on just a few sites. Instead of blue it selects purple a color that even isn't visible on that page at all.

I believe, it's not even possible to ensure that in all circumstances the current color picking feature will always work correct, so I want to have ability to select the accent color manually in such cases.

Mostly it works fine. I think, it's nice to have just in case, you know.

  • I'd appreciate this ability too. For my use case, I have multiple Gmail accounts bookmarked (personal + different work accounts). I access them via bookmark bar links, and they appear as:

    https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox
    https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox
    https://mail.google.com/mail/u/2/#inbox
    etc

Despite different Gmail themes--which I guess are loaded well after the fact via JS/etc anyway--they all show up as red accent. I'd love the ability to use accent color to tell them apart.

From an implementation point of view, this needs to be pretty flexible, since you can't use domain name, or even subdomain name. It really needs a complete matching engine for a "URL starts with" kind of check.

If his feature existed I'd use it to clean up badly-matched accent colors for frequent sites too.

For starters, domain name, or subdomain name would be fine, then the functionality could be extended further.
My suggestion was primarily about the ability to fix Vivaldi's bad decision concerning color selection.

  • Mismatches in site color are likely a result of Vivaldi falling back to the Favicon because the site does not set an explicit color for theming.
An option to disable this fallback should be sufficient.

@mwegner if all themes use the same GMail icon and do not set an explicit theme color (google UI fail), there will be blood red tinting.

  • This simple extension worked for gmail: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/custom-gmail-favicons/naelggiioddkpaokkopkbgfcjlkldpdn

There are some general-purpose favicon replacement extensions too. I mostly care about gmail, so didn't try any out, but they might be an option for anyone reading this and wanted to manually override colors for a site.
