Mark / highlight new features after update
-
I think that after updating V the new features that were introduced should be highlighted / marked in some way.
Maybe for some defined time or until first appearance / change / etc...?This is an example how it's done in other programs:
It will help people spot what has been changed / updated and what is worth checking.
I especially think about people who don't like reading changelogs or feel uncomfortable browsing through dozens of settings -
I've been asking for this in the past. Lemme just copy-paste this here:
Highlight new features in settings
I think it would be especially useful in the Snapshot releases. Sometimes we're too lazy to read the changelogs or we just want to quickly find the new features in settings - that would come in handy then.
This could be achieved in many ways, like e.g. adding a "New!" flag, highlighting it with a different color etc. This highlight could be persistent (until the next update) or could disappear once the user views the tab containing new settings (for a certain amount of time), hovers over it or make changes to it. -
Why not make a checklist, no need to say what has been changed, but just a list of features that has to be tested and verified. A new item is then "Dunnit and it works" and if it does not work, enter a text, say max 80 characters to describe the problem or whatever happened.
It is impossible to detect every new thing, but a simple tracker, a simple interface allow them to count that the new feature has been tested would help. If they want specific sites tested, Youtube videos, post some links, and I will test them and report problems or success. -
@knuthf Hello Knuthf, I fully agree for Snapshots. For the Stable channel I would recommend ROTFL's idea.

I think that the changelogs are the right place for this. Some new features are not visible in settings.

@pafflick Yup.
Thread about dead birds reminded me about this but I didn't see that on list so I added it.
