[Tip] Post tabulated data in forum

  • Consider the following textual representation of a table with a header: ||Mon||Tue||Wed||Thu||Fri|| |12|13|14|15|16| |19|20|21|22|23| |26|27|28|29|30| Even though there is a "Table" button in the Vivaldi forum post editor (see attached image), the actual bbCode format required to properly produce tabulated data is (IMO) nearly impossible to figure out without an example. I played around with this for about an hour and couldn't figure it out at all. :pinch: [attachment=1187]VivaldiKunenaforumbbCodeTablebuttonwithpointer.png[/attachment] Table formatting isn't even mentioned on the [url=http://www.kunena.org/docs/Bbcode]Kunena Wiki BBCode Help page[/url] (Vivaldi's forum software provider) linked from the Vivaldi post editor, and several posts in the Kunena forums found via Google Search failed to yield any helpful information. (I think they are mostly geared towards webmasters implementing the Kunena software on their own site). A quick search of several other markdown sites revealed other approaches to formatting tabulated data, but yielded no usable examples applicable to the Vivaldi forum. Finally, I found this [url=http://www.teamopolis.com/tools/bbcode-table-generator.aspx][b]Free BBCode Table Generator Tool[/b][/url] where I could plug in the above data and it generated the proper code to produce the following table in the Vivaldi forum (see spoiler for code): [table] [tr] [th]Mon[/th] [th]Tue[/th] [th]Wed [/th] [th]Thu[/th] [th]Fri[/th] [/tr] [tr] [td]12[/td] [td]13[/td] [td]14[/td] [td]15[/td] [td]16[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]19[/td] [td]20[/td] [td]21[/td] [td]22[/td] [td]23[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]26[/td] [td]27[/td] [td]28[/td] [td]29[/td] [td]30[/td] [/tr] [/table] On my system the table header weekdays line up properly over the dates when viewed in the post editor preview, but the alignment is off in the final display after I post it, so there may be more work that needs to be done. Perhaps that problem would go away if I hadn't specified the first row as a header row, but I haven't checked that yet (and that probably would also eliminate the bold-face of the header line). Also, AFAICT, there doesn't seem to be a way to force the table to use less than the full width allowed for the forum post. [spoiler] [code] [table] [tr] [th]Mon[/th] [th]Tue[/th] [th]Wed [/th] [th]Thu[/th] [th]Fri[/th] [/tr] [tr] [td]12[/td] [td]13[/td] [td]14[/td] [td]15[/td] [td]16[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]19[/td] [td]20[/td] [td]21[/td] [td]22[/td] [td]23[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]26[/td] [td]27[/td] [td]28[/td] [td]29[/td] [td]30[/td] [/tr] [/table] [/code] [/spoiler] Attachments: [img]https://forum.vivaldi.net/uploads/attachments/40170/VivaldiKunenaforumbbCodeTablebuttonwithpointer.png[/img]
