SpeedDial options and passwords

  • I've been using Vivaldi for about a week now. I have been using SRWare Iron for years. I heard good things about Vivaldi so wanted to try it out. I have a couple questions. Speed Dial. I'm not a big fan, so I was wondering if the new tab action could be a blank window or my home page. Or, is it possible to populate Speed Dial with frequently visited pages without having to click the + sign, then type it all in. Stored passwords. I found where I can see what websites I have saved passwords for, but I don't see anywhere that I can look at those passwords to see what they are. Is it possible to see them? After a week, I like Vivaldi. It's neat to be part of something early on and watch it grow. Keep up the great work devs! -Mike

  • Your first post, so welcome! :)

If you've really been using Vivaldi for a week, you started before TP3 was released a couple days ago. If so, I would recommend you update to TP3 (1.0.162.4).

The whole Speed Dial functionality is an ongoing work in progress and frankly I ignore it for now, so I'll leave others to reply to your SD questions, except to say that if what you want isn't yet available, just about any amount of customizability you could want should eventually be possible.

As for passwords, although I don't use any, I think vivaldi://chrome/settings/passwords might be what you want.

See vivaldi://vivaldi-urls and this List of Vivaldi URLs thread for more Vivaldi settings and info.

  • I just updated to .4, thank you for the heads up. I did a 'check for updates' from the help menu, but it did not make me aware of .4.

Those two URL's are great, thanks for sharing them. I found what I'm looking. Maybe I should tell Bono (U2 joke, sorry couldn't resist).

I've been installing each new release to a fresh standalone installation, so I haven't experienced this myself, but IIRC I've seen a comment or two in the forums about TPs and Developer snapshots being in different update channels, so checking for updates in one or the other won't offer the other channel. (And 64-bit Vivaldi is still considered "experimental" so IIUC, it won't check for auto-updates, and I don't know if manual check works.)

Best bet is to follow the Team Blog for weekly updates (usually on Mondays) and occasional mid-week updates. Vivaldi is developing rapidly, but Developer snapshots since Technical Preview 2 have generally been as stable, if not more stable, than TP2 and there really was no good reason to stay with TP2. I imagine (and hope) that trend will continue, and a sufficiently cautious (IMO) approach might be to check the Tem Blog comments for a day or two before installing each DS,

Sure, I bet he'd want to know! :D
