A Shortcut to Force Links to Open in the Current Tab
-
Hello.
I would be really happy to see the feature that most of the browsers don't have.
Some of web services still uselink
and it is very annoying if you need to use them on daily basis.
Now I can press "Cmd + click" to open a link in a new tab, but also it would be very useful to have a hotkey to do the opposite: forcibly open the link in the current tab.Thank you.

For now, you can use the "Open link" command from the context menu to override the default behaviour. I've been using it all the time in the old Opera and I'm using it in Vivaldi since it was introduced some time ago. I agree that a hotkey for this command would be useful.

Thank you, @pafflick
Your workaround works for me as well. Better than nothing. -
May I ask if there is a chance for this to be implemented?
-
@kivagant There is nearly always a chance, but no-one knows how soon.
-
@pafflick is there a shortcut for this command?
-
@yjs14 There is no shortcut, that's why this thread is in Feature Requests. Just upvote it, and hope for it to be introduced.
I just added Option to Always Reuse Active Tab, which would not need any shortcut.
-
A mouse gesture for this would be also useful.
Btw., bump!

Meanwhile you can use the extension Tab Position Options : https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tab-position-options/fjccjnfkdkdmjohojoggodkigkjkkjhl
and define the site you want to open in the current tab or new tab:

Thanks for the tip @barbudo2005 !!!
GetPocket has been annoying me for so long with having to right-click to 'Open Original'.
Such a small thing but when you are doing it constantly, this extension makes me happy!!

@pafflick Is there any update on this old but gold feature request, please? Vivaldi goes to great lenghts managing too many open tabs, but it doesn‘t prevent the reason for too many tabs. Firefox does and this single one feature is reason enough to stay with Firefox, which is sad because Vivaldi is better in many other aspects, but this one is a show stopper, so please please finally implement this quick-win for an otherwise great browser, ok!?

Also, Target="_Blank" Link marker & toggler will mark any popup link & allow u to overwrite it to open in current tab with SHIFT key. It doesn't interfere with background or current tab link opener behavior.
