Tab as title only, without tile preview?

  • Hi. I must be missing something, because this seems obvious to me, but I like tabs on the left, but do not want page preview in the tab. I only want the page title. (Opera users might remember tabs before previews) Is that possible? How do I turn off showing a preview of the page in the tab bar/column?

The option to turn off previews on the sides isn't working right, yet. It theoretically should work if you turn off "use tab tooltips," but it doesn't, yet.

Yes, here. Create the custom.css file and use the last simple edit in the first reply, you'll get what you need.

Tab tooltips is referred to the floating previews, not the static ones embedded on the tabs.

So, aside the misleading name, it works as it should.

What the OP asks needs a different option, which is completely missing.

The OP can find or ask for something useful here

I think it works as it should. The Use Tab Tooltips option controls the flyout, not the actual thumb on the tab. Right now I don't think there is an option for the tab itself.
However, if you pin the tab, there is no thumb ;)

I gotcha. I'm so used to the previews any more, I barely even notice them.

On the one hand, I agree that it works "as it should" in the same sense that it works "as it should" for horizontal tabs across the top or bottom: i.e., it toggles text tooltip or thumbnail preview flyout. On the other hand, it is also mislabeled and works the opposite of how it is labeled (for both horizontal and vertical tabs): selecting/checking "Use Tab Tooltips" should should enable the text "tooltip" description of the tab, not the thumbnail preview flyout, but it actually does the opposite.

What is missing is a setting to not display thumbnails in place of the vertical tab to provide the same visual appearance you can achieve now by pinning all tabs in the left or right vertical tabs arrangement.

Just the string is wrong not the function. It should be "enable previews" or "enable thumbnails", I doubt someone would like to disable the proper tooltips.

    I agree

    I agree

    This?

Yeah. I think that should be an option, although it's not an option I would use.

Exactly! …and at least in this one case I would feel reasonably confident invoking the frequent (and all too often ignorant) user lament: "It should be a simple change to make." :P
