Since when did the default dark theme stop matching its accent color with currently active page?
-
I noticed recently that the default Vivaldi dark theme stopped matching its active tab color with the color property of the currently active website. Can anyone inform me on when this change was made, and why?
Personally, I think it would only be natural to have default dark theme have this matching feature on, just because Vivaldi's light theme (which is the "complement" of dark theme) does this matching.
Just in case if anyone needs this information, I am using Linux Mint 19, Cinnamon 64-bit, and latest snapshot of Vivaldi as of now (1.16.1279.3).

@ysul0614 I'm not aware that any change was made, but you do have the setting to turn that on and off. I see that in my latest version of the Snapshot, the accent from page color is indeed off by default in the dark theme. It's that way in my internal test version as well. It's probably just a mistake. You can turn it on simply by opening the edit option while that theme is selected, and checking the box.

@ayespy The default themes got an overhaul some versions ago. This was one of the changes – dark theme doesn't use "accent color from active page" anymore. Another change was the removal of the "Windows" theme – it wasn't actually called Windows but it had a blue accent color on window. Instead we got the new "Olive" theme. And the last change was the addition of the "Vivaldi" theme.
I don't think there is any mistake – it's all meant to be. In my personal opinion they could have gotten rid of the light theme – it's very similar to the Vivaldi theme and now sits there at the end looking like it's been left there by accident.

@luetage I was on top of all of this, with the exception of certain minor changes that might have been made to certain themes (like the dark and the light) that I don't use. I noticed when the pulled the Redmond theme, added the Vivaldi theme, etc. And of course we have not seen the end of new theming options.

Thank you to both of you for these information.
It might just be me, but the current "dark" theme (without accent color from active page) looks more like a complement theme of the subtle theme (which also doesn't inherit accent color from active page).
If I were to rename them and have complement themes have same properties, it might be better to:- current subtle theme and light theme keeps its name
- current dark theme is renamed as "subtle dark" or something
- add a new dark theme that has "accent color from active page" option on
Just a suggestion, but I think this makes more sense, as what should be a complement has same properties (except for light/dark distinctions, obviously).

@ysul0614 there were noumerous complaints about the dark them being broken:
Popular dark accent colors made active tabs indistinguishable for many sites. This is a general shortcoming of accentuating tabs.
But with the current revival of considering dark UI hip for everything, the effects are mostly limited to certain color combinations. There are virtually no designers going the extra length to set a certain dim light grey accent color.
With current defaults , if you change it, you broke it. -
@becm Except there are still dark default themes that use the accent color from active page setting. I'd say they just wanted to diversify the default options for premade themes, but that's just a guess of course.

@luetage there was a strong correlation for a certain site/theme/user (dark/
Dark
/no knowledge or willingness to change accentuating) combination in noumerous complaints spread over several months.
I as well just guess this may be related to a change in defaults.
