Search Field Dictionary Popup
-
There is an extension, Google Dictionary, that pops out after selecting a word on a website with double-click — the meaning of the word pops out in a yellow small sticky note.
I wonder if this could be implemented over the Search field in the address bar - double-clicked selection pops out an explanation there directly in the field?

@vydas If the extension doesn't have code for this, it won't happen. And since chromium has no search field, and since the search field is part of the UI, there is in my opinion no way to accomplish this. At least not one I can think of right now.

Dictionary is only one example. Say, depending on a search engine type in the search field, upon double-click selection of a word, various type of information may be relayed on the screen, probably dropdown menu. Say - a mini map, bitcoin price, share prices, synonyms and thesaurus, youtube's related videos, traffic info, weather info if a city or address is selected selected by doubleclicking.
It depends on a particular person how one uses search engine. -
@vydas This would be useful on the web page and has already been suggested, but in the URL field it would be of very limited value, and as pointed out by luetage, difficult to do.

@pesala
Ok. I understand.
By the way, what happened to Chrome's Webstore - I cannot install extension anymore into Vivaldi. Is there a workaround to install any desired extension? -
@vydas The question is what happened to your Vivaldi installation. I'm sure the webstore is fine.

@vydas
I just tried and the store is there and let me install whatever I want. So the question is at which point does it break for you.
1.) Can you access the store?
2.) Can you search for extensions?
3.) Is the "Add to Chrome" button visible when you select an extension? -
@luetage @zaibon
that is funny. Without any repairs or other interventions during these last hour since my post, the Webstore allows installing extensions again. I even didn't close the Vivaldi page, only reloaded.Previous button [Install Chrome browser] now appears [+Add to Chrome].
Sorry.
Don't Panic! -
@vydas Thanks for the info - good to know

Thank you for your request. As it has received few votes over 4 years, it is now going to be archived.
