Multiple search boxes

  • Hi, 1. In old opera I had ability to create separate search boxes for each engine and put them f.e. on bookmark bar. It was great and unique function which i miss a lot. Can you please bring it back in the future version of Vivaldi? 2. Adding search within a webpage (find bar) option also would be great. 3. With 40 tabs open the browser is very slow... and I have 16gb of ram, ssd drive and fast processor. Anyway thanks for all your work! It's great to have worthy successor to old opera.

  • Your first post, so welcome! :)

#1 would likely be possible eventually.

#2: Do you mean something different than is available now with Ctrl+F? (doesn't yet have options like case sensitive search, or remain visible all the time)

#3 That's disheartening isn't it. I have nowhere near the machine (2GB RAM and 6 year old mid-level CPU) and can only use about 8-10 tabs reliably, though I've had up to 20-25 for brief stretches of time. However, performance and speed enhancements are promised after the basic browser features are better established.

I never have more than 10/15 tabs opened. So I can't say much.

But surely this helps a lot

  • @gdveggie Yes! That is what i was looking for. I rarely use any shortcuts so I didn't expect to be hidden find bar. Thanks! :)

I'm a type of person who likes to have everything visible and easy to click. I don't want so called "advanced options" to be hidden, especially if I'm using them a lot. Tons of open tabs, hundreds of bookmarks on the left, dozens of search boxes on the right… That's how i see my ideal browser. I prefer huge mess on my desk than everything hidden in drawers, boxes etc. I hate this minimalistic chrome style which is so popular these days. In old opera I could right click everywhere and arrange things whatever i like. What was wrong with that?

@The_Solutor Thanks! I'll try that extension.

Good. Glad to be of help. Ctrl+F is a standard default for "Find in page" for most browsers and a high percentage of other Windows utilities and programs that can make use of such a function (text editors, word processors, etc.). Also F3 is very commonly "Find again" (i.e., search for the next instance of same search term).

If you rarely use shortcuts you might not yet have discovered those that are available (and user programmable) in Vivaldi's settings. Given Vivaldi's current immature state of development, there might be a few others there that you would find usable until the Vivaldi UI is more fully developed.
