TP3 is here!

Hi, Today, we released the 3rd Technical preview of the Vivaldi browser. We would like to thank all of you again for testing and helping us to achieve this important development milestone. Special thanks goes to our Sopranos who have been tirelessly testing our internal builds and confirming many incoming issues. TP3 is significant improvement from TP2. Just to recap what we worked on for the last 1.5 month since TP2: Added Tab stack and tab tiling, vertical, horizontal and grid organization Improved Notes both visually and functionally. Now you can add more attachments and screenshots Added support for more mouse gestures, including link gestures Added more keyboard shortcuts and improved keyboard shortcut editing Added Unread tab indicator to both tabs and tab stacks Added optional Native window support for better integration with Linux WMs in particular Added Auto update on Windows Increased the number of supported languages to 40 Added data import from all major browsers. Added on demand image and plugin controls so that you can load only what you need Added Background tab progress indicator Improved both Fast Forward and Rewind functionality Significantly improved Spatial navigation Improved Page actions Added more options to the download dialog. It now has both "Save" and "Save as" in addition to "Open" Added a new option to the bookmarks bar, so that you can have a very compact bookmarks bar with icons only Added full screen reminder option Some performance tuning A lot of bug fixes and polish We are happy to see the progress we’ve made but our work will continue. Hello! I've been an Opera user for ages but have been growing more and more unhappy with its recent developments (since around version 11). So I was extremely happy and excited to hear about this project.
So I tried to download the preview but ran into a problem during install. I grabbed the 32 bit rpm package (I'm on KDE/Mandriva). When I run it, I get this error:
Installation failed: vivaldi-stable conflicts with vivaldi-preview-1.0.162.4-1.i386
Any idea what is causing this and how I can work around it (if possible)?
In any case, I'll be following this project very closely.
Thanks!

Delete vivaldi-stable. There is no stable version right now. The package is renamed since the early releases.
-
But I don't have a 'vivaldi-stable'.
All I have is the package I downloaded from the website which is called Vivaldi_TP3.1.0.162.4-1.i386.rpm.
When I run that with the urpmi shell command, it gives me that error I posted above.

What does
urpmq vivaldi
say?
-
It says "vivaldi-preview", so that seems right…
My guess would be that it's an internal issue with the package? A misnamed item within, perhaps...

Hi there, do I need to upgrade my vivaldi version manually or does it happen during software updates? Now I have 1.0.162.9 and I think it is the current version, isn't it? I have it installed sinse technical preview 1 and didn't bother until now.

The autoupdate has different lanes, each for each release channel.
So Tp3 will autoupdate on tpX, but not on snapshots (and viceversa)

The latest version (a Snapshot) is 1.0.196.2. It can be found at the Vivaldi Team Blog https://vivaldi.net/en-US/blogs/teamblog . All snapshots automatically update to the nest snapshot.
1.0.162.9 is a "Technical Preview" and the technical previews all automatically update to the next technical preview.
As it happens, all versions update to the same physical location on your hard drive, so if you have a TP, and want the latest version instead of the TP, just go to the blog and download the latest version and it will replace the TP, plus it will automatically update each time a new ver comes out, until the next major ver.

Is Snapshot some kind of a beta version? What is the difference?

Is Snapshot some kind of a beta version? What is the difference?
Technical Preview is pre-Beta - perhaps even pre-alpha. But TPs are released as being tested relatively trouble-free for the average user - perhaps a bit difficult to get in trouble with.
Snapshots are incremental progress beyond the last TP, usually released every week, but with less testing than a TP - progress toward the next TP or, at present, progress toward the FIRST Beta.
The way it turns out, progress is so fast that snapshots turn out to be LESS problematic than TPs most of the time, though they may introduce bugs that were not present in the TP (like this last snapshot for instance introduced a little visual bug in some side tabs). For people who are missing features, or for whom something is not yet working right in the TP, they will usually find that the latest snapshot is more feature-complete, has more options, and that more things are working in it. The only "downside" of a snapshot is that it's release with less than a week of testing. This turns out to be a very minimal risk, however.

I installed from apt and also from the package.
Now I have two versions of Vivaldi on my system:
Vivaldi (snapshot) - 1.0.162.2 (Developer Build) dev
Vivaldi (technical preview) - 1.0.162.9 (Developer Build)Why neither of them says 1.0.2??
PS Linux Mint 64bit

Possibly because one is a Technical Preview and won't update until the next Technical preview, and the other, I don't know. You're using a deb-based Linux, and mine found the repo and updates faithfully every time a new ver. comes out. I recommend you go ahead and go to the Vivaldi Team Blog and install 1.0.201.2, and uninstall any other version that remains. This SHOULD hook up your machine to the repo and get you a new ver. every time you do a system update.

Sorry but not autoupdate, because missing the metadata file vivaldi server.
OpenMandriva,/Mageia/Rosa using urpmi. The urpmi needed media_info folder hdlist.cz metadata file.
http://repo.vivaldi.com/archive/rpm/x86_64/media_info/hdlist.cz
This file hdlist.cz with the genhdlist2 command file can be produced. Why not this file? -
