Webmail cannot apply filters
-
Hello!
With the old mail service I could forward my mails to a certain folders. For an example I could forward facebook mails, to a folder that I had named facebook. After the upgrade I cannot get this feature to work anymore. I've tried to set up rules in almost every way possible. The fact that this doesnt work almost makes the mail unusable since I get a lot of facebook mails every day./Staffan

@staffan-mattsson I also saw no result after creating a filter for Bug reports.
The mails just remain in my inbox, instead of being moved to my JIRA folder as expected.

Hi @Staffan-Mattsson
Please tell us the exact Filter settings you tried, so we can test them as well. -
Well, Ive tried almost anything really, Im sure Ive even tried Pesalas above, so thats a pretty good picture.

Anything?

Hey @Staffan-Mattsson, sorry for the late reply.
We're still working on it, but could you try, if the following option works for you?
For incoming mail select:
From + is equal to + the name and email.Take the name and email from one of the emails you want to automatically move to a specific folder in the future. For example, in the box, where @Pesala's screenshot has "JIRA" you should have "Facebook < [email protected]>" (without the quotation marks).
Give it a go and let us know if it works for you as well.
-
@pesala a filter with (only) this rule compiles down to
require ["fileinto"]; # rule:[JIRA] if header :contains "subject" "JIRA" { fileinto "JIRA"; fileinto "INBOX"; }
So either the filter does move the mail to the
JIRA
folder and back toINBOX
, as it is told to.Or it is ignored because conflicting
fileinto
operations are undefined behaviour.
Someone from mail admin team please check?
Could not find conclusive information on this… -
@becm Yes, I just noticed the unintended move action. I deleted that, and changed the condition to From is equal to the bug report email. Let's see if it works for my next bug report.

Didnt work.....

You need to put both the display name and the email there, not just the email address.
Open one of the emails you want to be filtered. I don't get emails from Facebook, so I'll use a different example. Check the "From" section (see image). Copy the Display name (Spotify) and the email address (< [email protected]>), including the angle brackets (<>) to the filter.
Depending on your message display settings (Settings > Preferences > Displaying Messages), you might just see the display name. In that case click on the sender's display name to open the email composer. You'll find the full display name + email combination in the "To" section.
With my example, the filter setup looks like this:
Let us know, how it goes.

I also just noticed that you want to delete the emails, not just move them to a specific folder. In that case, why not go to Facebook email notification settings and opt out from receiving these emails?
-
@jane-n likely unapplicaple for current case but for future reference:
Matches for
address
andheader
are indistinguishable in the rule creation UI.
So if a rule was edited manually in this way, the above statement may not apply.
A simple negation foraddress
seems to be preserved when changed via UI. -
@staffan-mattsson according to spec,
fileinto
makesdiscard
a non-operation (in this context).Since sieve is underspecified in respect to control flow and operations, it might matter to have the full ruleset(s) for finding possible errors.

Sorry for the trouble, we're looking into this.
@Staffan-Mattsson is this issue still ongoing?
If so, please file a bug report with the maximum details so the mail admins can follow it up internally: vivaldi.com/bugreport
Thanks in advance for your help -
Hey guys!
Thank you for being so patient with us.All the filters should be working without issues now. Please test and let us know how it goes.
