Icons for vote buttons need to be improved...
-
The forum's current up/down arrow icons for vote buttons are not intuitive to new users. Please upgrade the icons to thumbs up/down, which is much easier to recognize and it will encourage more active voting.
Also, if we have already voted on a post, the corresponding vote button should remain highlighted to indicate it for us.
-
The up/down arrows are fine. But yeah, voting indicators are needed.
-
I agree for the fact they should remain highlighted.
For the "thumbs", why not having a more creative way to invite users to vote. The thumbs are too FB oriented... -
using the arrow icons for voting is too vague to new users. thumb icons are just a universal standard for voting buttons nowadays. there is no need to change, for the sake of change, what isn't broken.
-
@tsunamiz it's not a universal standard. Look at reddit for example, they have up and down arrows for voting too. In all places on the forum where voting is essential, you can also find explanations on how to do it. I don't think this is a substantial problem, but I think it's fair to say that a tooltip explaining the buttons when hovering one of them wouldn't hurt anyone.
-
Changing the icons would be more effective than tooltips, which are language dependent, and not always seen by users.
I moved it to the feature requests for the forum, which is where it belongs.

I don't think it matters much what icons do you use, the important thing is how the state of "upvoted/downvoted" shows up. If you click on one, it should change. Let's say up to green, down to red. ¿?
-
@latisullivan That's right. It is indeed the most important part of the request.
-
@pesala Please include the vote indication (color) on voting in ur request. Lack of this makes things annoying. And I am okay with arrows (as @latisullivan correctly said). (I am browsing this site on Android 6.0)
-
@yashpalgoyal1304 I have included voting indicators in the forum extension. The extension works out fine on Firefox for Android, but it's a bit of a hassle to get chrome extensions to install on Firefox Android. Definitely possible, but it would be easier if Vivaldi just implemented this as a feature – it's a very simple fix.

Hey guys!
A color indicator is coming to upvotes/downvotes with the next big forum update. -
The improvement is here! You can now see all the posts and comments you've already voted for.
-
@jane-n The problem is it seems to be hard coded, I wrote a bugreport for this.

For those who already used this feature before - if you're not happy with the current color choice (or if it simply doesn't fit your custom CSS), here's a solution:
.topic .votes [component="post/upvote"].upvoted { background-color: color-here !important; } .topic .votes [component="post/downvote"].downvoted { background-color: color-here !important; }
Simply replace
color-here
with the color of your choice.
