Shining new Snapshot (1.0.161.2) more bugfixing

Hi y'all This week has been a bit emotional for some of us as we learned that the company many of us worked for before, Opera, dismantled it´s Oslo desktop team and fired some 70 employees around the world. As you can imagine, this is a major move for the company as this is where it all started, with the desktop browser in Oslo. Many of our good friends around the globe lost their jobs. Our thoughts are with them all. Clearly this makes our task even more important and we will continue to work hard making the best browser available for you, our friends. https://vivaldi.net/en-US/blogs/teamblog/item/25-snapshot-1-0-161-1-more-bugfixing //Christian - Vivaldi Technologies

I did a manual update, did not see an auto update alert.

Might Vivaldi be interested in picking up these friends whom Opera has let go? If they have talent that can be used and funds are available for this, it's a possibility right?

The availability of funds at the moment would appear to be strictly limited to the depth of Jon's pockets - as I can't imagine the browser will show a profit for a while. So While I'm sure he'd be tickled to death to hire many of these guys, I'm not sure he can afford to.

Vivaldi tells users that AVI downloads from Wikisend are malicious. The file is not malicious.
The warning is false. At most it should say something like "This site has been blacklisted for hosting malicious files. Do you wish to continue?" or something else that is actually informative about why the warning is given.

… it should say something like "This site has been blacklisted for hosting malicious files. Do you wish to continue?" ...
Typically, sites like that get black-listed because of a history (however brief or spotty) of having some of their hosted files turn out to be malicious. The problem is that the black-listing agency has no idea which of the various currently hosted files at the site necessarily are/will-be malicious, they only respond to previous user complaints filed with the agency or copied from other black-listers' listings. So once they do flag a site for a record of malicious file downloads, they treat/blacklist all files originating from the site as malicious. That said, however, I do prefer your wording for the warning since it more accurately reflects reality for most such situations.

I didn't see that one coming… Seriously, Christian, I don't know what was the reason behind purchase of Opera by big fat G. But whatever the reason, it's the way big corporations do things. Buy smaller competitor, screw their product, steal what you can and close the shop. It happened million of times before. It's so sad that Opera went bust. From strong, small company into dust in 2 years? (Opera ceased to exist at 12.17, after adoption of "RootKit" engine). Some kind of a record.
As for updating. Will skip this one as people reporting some quirky behaviour.

Sessions still are broken. What the remember me check box is made for again?
Seems a restart after "only" 24 hours is sufficient to make a session gone lost.someone

Please don't jump to conclusions or read things that haven't been stated. Opera ASA has not 'gone bust'… at least, not yet. It has not ceased development work on its desktop browser... at least, not yet. It has closed one desktop development site (in Oslo) but at least some desktop development work continues at other sites (eg: Poland). There is no tangible (as in: genuine, accurate, court-submissive) evidence that "big G" ever bought Opera ASA or did anything to Opera's product(s) other than perhaps participated in some preferred-feature arrangements.
There's challenge enough for folks to sift through reality as it truly is, rather than obfuscating it with personal-viewpoint hyperbole and exaggeration.

And if we're going down the conspiracy theory route, at least get it right - it was Facebook not Google who "took over"…
Edit: just to be clear to anyone reading about this for the first time, this was the unconfirmed rumour that went about around the time that Jon left Opera. Do not think that this is the truth or that I believe it!
