How to disable Back and Forward for mouse buttons 4 and 5?
-
I can not find the setting invovling mouse button 4 or 5 anywhere,
the closest settings i found is:
Tools->setting->Keyboard->Website->History back/forward
(default: backspace, ctrl+ or alt+ arrows),
for mouse i found nothing like that.I use other program for my mouse mainly to controll volume and on MB4 and MB5 i have "Ctrl+C" and "Ctrl+V" and on MB5 i have nothing else i know of, but it still moves me Forward in vivaldi history.
To use this browser i need to Disable this setting, even if i had to disable any shortcuts moving me in history back or forward.
Is it possible to customize it, or is Opera 12 from year 2011 the only user-friendly browser ever? -
You can customise keyboard shortcuts. I currently have set keyboard shortcuts to open the bookmarks and the first webpanel for 4th and 5th mouse button and inputting the same shortcuts in the mouse software works flawlessly. One thing I noticed is that both programs (Vivaldi and mouse) display different shortcuts although I typed the same characters out in each setting – and both display wrong. Doesn't matter though because it works. The point is I'm not using an US keyboard and the software handles this poorly in both cases. Make sure you set shortcuts in Vivaldi and mouse settings manually and using the same shortcuts – delete previously set shortcuts. Don't care for what is actually displayed, but make sure you type it both times correctly, then it should function as desired. Also try out different modifier keys, maybe ctrl/alt interferes with something else system wide, or add shift to it.

@luetage Unfortunately i can not find the Settings For Mouse. ???
(removing all 3+2 keybinds in previously described menu...[History<-] or [History->] really stops my keyboard (good; damn) but using my mouse still crashes my browser.btw
(...text removed),
just taht i spent way over 3 hours of additional hard work with no positive result
JUST NEED IT DISABLEDWhat else makes Vivaldi go [ < ] or [ > ], besides these keyboard shortcuts, clicking the buttons, mouse gestures or two button click?
like for example
about:config, browser.backspace_action -
@martinbvivaldi You can't set mouse shortcuts in Vivaldi. You can only set keyboard shortcuts. Therefore you need some kind of application that lets you bind keyboard shortcuts to mouse buttons – that's what I was referring to when I said mouse settings. Has nothing to do with Vivaldi.

@martinbvivaldi said in How to DISABLE going Back and Forward after pressing mouse thumb side buttons 4 and 5?:
I use other program for my mouse mainly to controll volume and on MB4 and MB5 i have "Ctrl+C" and "Ctrl+V" and on MB5 i have nothing else i know of, but it still moves me Forward in vivaldi history.
Please, correct me if I'm wrong - you have keyboard shortcuts assigned to your mouse's backward/forward buttons and they still cause Vivaldi to go backwards & forward in history, despite their default actions being overwritten (supposedly) by this "other program"?

@pafflick sorry for a late reply. i think Yes
investigation result: I don't have 5 buttons, but only 3 + a fwd and a bwd button.
I wanted to bypass (Disable) it similarly like in firefox.
(Btw in most programs i use, it looks like 5 buttons without any suspicion that the mouse is a cripple.)I should rather BUY a MOUSE with real 5 buttons and equipped by a healthy software / driver. Sorry for so much mess.
software review:
Vivaldi is imo still the best browser today.
X-MouseButtonControll makes only more mess, i cuoldn't make it help more than a hammer. -
So it's the 3rd party software issue, then?
If you need a mouse with configurable buttons, you should probably look for a gaming mouse, as they often come with dedicated software, which allows you to assign any keys/buttons/actions to override the default ones. Here's an example (it's the mouse that I'm currently using):
-
Kind of. It is a Customization issue: Vivaldi has a bug that it doesn't offer me a possibility to live with my left hand on the End/Home/Del/Arrow keys while i am fast-writing with my sick mouse.
Every time i am trying to cancel this toppic, it reminds me that the issue has been adding about 10 minutes of delay into an Average hour of work. Buying a new mouse tomorrow, with Software!
Thanks for all. -
i know this is necroing an old post but meh idc. "button 4" and "button 5" on a mouse are mapped as the forward and backward keys by default and you need to remap them within a software developed by your mouses manufacturer to change this. even in a video game if you want to map mouse button 4 or 5 it says forward or backward. not 4 or 5. this is not a bug in vivaldi or whatever corner of the internet i managed to find myself in. it is universal and i was curious as to why they are mapped as such and do not have their own individual map codes (as this would help mmo gamers, giving them a couple extra buttons to macro with if their keyboards already have forward and backward keys) and did a search which is how i ended up on this forum. have a great day guys!

@MartinBvivaldi i know this is old but your mouse likely has software for it that you can find on the internet. only posting this to help whoever might land on this thread. search your mouses model number or even manufacturers name on the internet cross referenced with the word software, application and/or program. you will probably find one made by the company which made the mouse or even a 3rd party developer, usually mouse software can be found on the support page of the manufacturers website

I made a tool to suppress the extra mouse buttons on Windows if that helps any.
https://racode.nz/inhibit-windows-events/Apologies for Necro but this post shows up pretty high in Google so thought I'de post here.
Note for devs:
I'm happy for the Vivaldi devs to add this as a feature for Windows PC's get in touch if you would like any assistance with this. -
I guess blocking mouse or key events can be done on Windows with AHK script ans mouse macros of Autohotkey.
