Opera cannot display vivaldi web page
-
I still use Opera pre-Google including M2 and have still little to none problem surfing the net or emailing with it. Now I have heard of vivaldi as a probable Opera successor and naturally wanted to go visit the website for more info. And guess what, Opera which is having no troubles usually with websites cannot display the site at all. I find it rather amusing and a little bit disconcerting that the official website of a would be replacement for Opera is not even compatible to old versions of it while all the others are. In case you are interested I use Opera Version 12.16 Build 1860.

Your first post, so welcome!
That does seem a bit ironic.:P
There are definitely more and more sites that Olde Opera doesn't handle well, but I'm not finding any difficulty with Opera 12.16 on any Vivaldi pages. What URL are you referring to?
-
Do you mean this?
-
I figured that most likely OP did meant that https://vivaldi.com page, but I tried both it and several https://vivaldi.net pages (forum, blog, etc) in Opera 12.16 and they all worked find.
Then after you, The_Solutor, posted I realized I had tried 64-bit Opera 12.16, so just now I tried 32-bit Opera 12.14 and it worked fine on all the pages as well.

Thanks for the answers.
When I try it now indeed it does work. However, the design has changed too.
Maybe it was a flash problem. NevermindToday I have used Vivaldi for the first time now and I must say my first impression is very positive. Clean and fast.
Looking forward for an 'Opera like' successor and a Linux port.Do I see right that there is an email client to be included soon?
-
Vivaldi is already available on Linux. I'm posting from Vivaldi on Linux Mint right now.
Re: the email client
Based on what I've seen around the forums, that depends on your definition of "soon." But, yes, it will come eventually. Have a look at the forums search results for "email client."

Thx for answering.
Oh? Linux port available? did not realize that.
Will install immediately.I really like the features of V so far. Really useful.
Vivaldi seems to want to keep the innovative spirit as Opera did back in its days.
Opera was always first with new (and not only new but also useful) innovative features, which the others then copied 1 year later.
What I would like to see is an easy way to set the browser into a low ambient light situation mode, i.e. s'thing like intelligent reformatting of web pages to dark background. Essentially a color-invert-mode.Is there some virtual basket in which to pour in new ideas for future innovation?

Night mode has been requested by multiple users. Not sure how quickly such a thing could be implemented. In the meantime, under "page actions" on the status bar, there is a per-page "invert" button.
There is a feature request topic in the Forum. Pretty busy, too: https://vivaldi.net/forum/all/746-vivaldi-feature-request
Yeah - the mail button has been there since initial preview was launched Jan 27, 2015 - over eight months. Ouch.

In addition to what Ayespy said above, you can also add your own scripts to the Page Actions dialogue. I've written a short stylesheet that should change most web page's background dark. See the guide below.
- Windows: open directory %localappdata%\Vivaldi\Application\1.0.249.12\resources\vivaldi\user_files
β- Linux: open directory /opt/vivaldi-snapshot/resources/vivaldi/user_files/ - Create a new document, name it something like, "Night_Mode.css" Then open it.
- Paste this code into the file and then save it:
* { background: #2B2B2B !important; background-color: #2B2B2B !important; background-image: none !important; color: #E6E6E6 !important; border-color: #404040 !important; } a { color: #3399FF !important; } pre { background-color: #404040 !important; } code { background-color: #404040 !important; } textarea { background-color: #464646 !important; }
Vivaldi will need to be restarted afterward.
Here's what Google looks like after this style is injected:

thx a lot
looks just about right and what I needβ¦. for startes
will try and hope for a permanent implementation.
Cheers! -
No problem, a night mode user stylesheet takes no time at all to write.
And if the colours aren't to your liking, here's a good tool for getting the hex value of colours so you can customize it.
