Button to Save Internet Thumbnail Locally
-
I use Vivaldi for Windows. I like it. I like SpeedDial a lot.
However, I also have a utility (CCleaner) that I like a lot which automatically cleans the cache and gets rid of everything from the Internet (and in particular, Internet-based thumbnails in SpeedDial bookmarks) whenever I close Vivaldi. What I believe I have learned about CCleaner is that it leaves locally sourced Vivaldi SpeedDial thumbnail images intact.
Because of this, it has occurred to me that it would be a great convenience to have either 1) an additional Thumbnail Control button on each SpeedDial bookmark that lets me simply save the Internet thumbnail image to a local file or 2) a more general setting affecting all of SpeedDial that does this automatically -- so that thumbnails will be visible in SpeedDial after CCleaner does its cache cleaning (i.e., the next time I open Vivaldi).
This might also be helpful for anyone who regularly cleans out their browser cache, be it with CCleaner or some other means.
Thanks for considering this one.

@ironklad Presumably you know that you can already use Custom Thumbnails for Speed Dials?

@lonm The thumbnails must already be stored somewhere. Are they in a format that can be copied and pasted to a safe place, then selected as custom thumbnails.

@lonm, hehe, I tried and Vivaldi crash.

May you catch a bug?Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin No need to use chrome's hidden nonsense
In vivaldi, you can just directly use page screenshots!

@pesala As I recall (though its a few versions since I last checked) thumbnails are stored either in a database or as a base64 string. Unfortunately, neither of those are very easy for most users to get at.

Hi everyone,
Yes, I know about custom thumbnails. My basic thought is that it would be a nice convenience to be able to just take advantage of the thumbnails already being created dynamically by Vivaldi for SpeedDial -- by offering an option to automatically turn them into "custom" (or maybe let's call them "more permanent") thumbnails. Not only would this solve the problem that custom thumbnails already solve, but also, and perhaps more importantly, it means you can avoid having to go through the manual process of capturing (areas on) pages and then assigning them to your SpeedDial bookmarks, a task which might be fun for some who want to be creative, but also possibly tedious for others who just want to organize their SpeedDial arrangement. -
Thank you for your request. As it has received few votes over 4 years, it is now going to be archived.
