Automatically restart after a crash – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.16.1195.3

@paul1149 Excellent news!
-
@paul1149 Confirmed, the same problem here: win 7 enterprise 32 bit
-
bad news.... Yesterday my chrome updated to 67.x
Vivaldi still use 65.x
More than 3 month of delay.
I'm geek. I like fresh soft. -
@aplan The current version of Chrome in Opera 53 is still Chrome 66; version 67 has only just been released.
Vivaldi will always lag some weeks behind the current version as it needs to be tested and bugs need to be fixed after each Chrome update, which usually breaks something.Important security fixes from Chrome 66 have been back-ported to the latest Vivaldi, although it is still on Chrome 65.
-
@pesala: In opera development was chrome 67 from the beginning. Opera try to use in dev the latest build.
Ok. I understand you. But it is very annoying me to keep in the mind that my lovely browser is not on the edge.
-
@aplan You are correct in saying it's not on the edge, but at the same time, it's also went ahead and just built a platform for itself beyond the edge.
After all, no matter how far ahead chrome's updates are from Vivaldi, Vivaldi will always be ahead in terms of offering users notes, web panels, etc.
-
@lonm @aplan Of course, Vivaldi is way beyond the Edge that is Chrome, you could say it is exploring new frontiers, which makes it an explorer. And since we are using it to access the internet, we could call it an Internet Explorer. We have therefore concluded that Vivaldi is to Chrome, what Internet Explorer is to Edge… wait, something went terribly wrong here

Can't refresh bookmark's thumbnails on speed dial. Anyone else ?
-
@masterleo29 I have just reloaded 2 thumbs here, all ok, win7 32bit
-
@ian-coog From speed dial or from bookmark manager ?
-
@masterleo29 works for me from speed dial thumbs context menu, bookmark manager in speed dial and also from the bookmarks manager in side bar. I just refreshed all the automatic thumbs I have, all the rest are custom ones loaded from my HD.
edit: also a f5 to refresh all speed dial worked with no problems. -
@gwen-dragon Windows 10 x64 as well. Only seeing the "update thumbnails" button in the bookmark manager. Pressing F5 on speed dial doesn't refresh them. Context menu option is missing. (And I am comparing it side-by-side with my stable version)
-
@gwen-dragon Will try a full restart / clean profile / etc etc before reporting any bug
EDIT: Closing/Opening browser did nothing. However, using "simulate browser restart" from context menu (I have the 'debugging for packed apps' flag activated on my snapshot) fixed the issue.
-
@gwen-dragon @iAN-CooG Issue fixed, thanks for responding.
Note: Does the now-working "simulate browser restart" perform any extra tasks besides restarting the browser ? Since it started working only after using this option (closing the browser and reopening didn't help)
-
"Simulate browser restart" -- pls would someone explain how to use / access this? Is it only some Windoze thing? Forum Advanced Search produced a few hits, one of which mentioned it being in the Context Menu, but i cannot see it.
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/214187 -- is that flag necessary before it appears? [not currently convenient for me to close/relaunch V, to see for myself]. -
@steffie As far as I know, yes: You need to activate a flag - vivaldi://flags/#debug-packed-apps.
Remember: Be carefull with the flags you activate/desactivate. This one shouldn't affect you much (allows to simulate browser restart and inspect vivaldi elements like you do on any website) -

@paul1149 Excellent news!
But I wonder, how is your download location set - fixed or ask each time? And if you set it to Ask, does Stylus still Export?

Thank you. At least there's a workaround now, so the styles won't be lost.

Re..siza..ble tile... Resizable TILES! Great Job VIVALDI
-
@masterleo29 How did I miss that change? I don't see it in the current blog post.
-
I am not seeing it anywhere, too. What am I missing?
I use a custom.css mod to make the sd thumbs smaller without having to reduce the UI zoom, but I would be very glad to use less mods if there's finally a native option for that.
