One more plea for better desktop support
-
If you have multiple desktops and assign Vivaldi to one of them, clicking on external on another desktop opens the link in Vivaldi, but doesn't switch desktops. So, for example, if I have my email program assigned to desktop 1, and Vivaldi assigned to desktop 2, clicking on a link in an email will not switch to desktop 2.
This was broken for a long time, fixed briefly in 1.13, but was broken again in 1.14 and has been broken ever since. It's a small bug, but very annoying, and it prevents me from updating. I have also flirted with moving to other browsers (none of which, BTW, display this problem). Is there any plan to fix this?
-
This was never fixed. I used 1.13 and I had no instance where opening a link switched desktops.
-
@pulldown I'll share a link to your post with the Vivaldi team. This is another thing that I would also REALLY like to see fixed.
-
@luetage That's odd. It works fine for me on 1.13.1008.44, which is where I had to stop updating.
-
@pulldown Your case (where things did work) is rather specific but I can also confirm that Vivaldi has had issues and limitations with window handling and Desktop/Dock integration since the beginning.
-
@xyzzy Thanks for the help. I like Vivaldi, and it would be nice to be able to update with confidence again.
-
I second this.
Today I gave a lecture, showing PDF "slides" fullscreen. Some of my slides include hyperlinks (URLs) and if you click one of them, Vivaldi shows the webpage. Because it's a presentation on a projector, I want everything to be fullscreen, both Vivaldi and the PDF viewer.
So, not automatically swithcing to Vivaldi was annoying.
(This particular problem could be solved if PDF can embed a web renderer . . . like the Hogwarts newspapers . . . Or if Vivaldi's internal PDF viewer had a convenient presentation mode . . . )

@pulldown A number of dot releases later and still no desktop love. Thanks Vivaldi—you've got a lot of nice features, but I really need this one. Clearly I am in the minority, but it's time to commit to Firefox for good.
-
@pulldown It would be great if you would report a bug on this, if you have not done so. We aim to improve every part of Vivaldi and clearly support for multiple displays is important to a lot of our users. Trust me when I tell you that this is a priority for us, but at the same time we are a small team, which is getting bigger.
-
Well, OK, it looks like it's fixed. After five months on Firefox, I can move back to Vivaldi, which is a relief, because I do like it much better. Thanks for the fix.
