The spam pls :/
-
The spam comments are getting annoying, there needs to be some action regarding this. I have only 2 very old blogs and it hasn't been a week since I last cleaned out the comments and there are already 65 new spam comments that need all to be marked as spam manually. So where is the problem?
- Looking through them is a pain, since the whole comments are shown in comment overview. Instead only the first 3 lines should be shown to make it easier to find valid comments.
- The automatic spam check doesn't work at all and the comments are all still "awaiting spam check" (since months).
- All latest spam comments come from
@mail.ru
addresses. Vivaldi should just block comments with such addresses by default. - As long as this isn't solved, there should be an option to block all comments from even awaiting approval (lock blog down, no commenting if the author so desires).
- There should also be the possibility to only allow Vivaldi members with a Forum account with a certain number of upvotes to comment on blogs. Of course, the forum doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the Vivaldi community and other authors may disagree on this, but I'd really like to see something like this as an option.

I've just stopped bothering to check my mod queue. Seems the easiest solution, to me.
-
@lonm Personally we can certainly decide to just never check again, but this is a very bad solution obviously.

Interesting. I am not even on the Blogging platform. didnt even know of it till now, and I got a notif for this thread...why ? Did everyone get a notif for this ?? Now THAT is spam
-
@rojaviv You only get notifications to topics you reply to, but even this can be changed in settings
https://forum.vivaldi.net/user/yourusername/settings
. Maybe you have subscribed to the topic by accident? In any other case it's a weird bug, haven't encountered it so far. -
@luetage I checked, I have not subscribed to anything yet
Bear with me here, I dont even see the word 'topics' in the forum - so even if I wanted to, how would I follow the 'blog' topic ?
And in the settings, all we see are are the two checkboxes for watch topics right - there is no indication of what topics we subscribe to ? -
@rojaviv See the drop list below this topic.

@luetage sorry for not getting back to you earlier about this. One way to limit spammers is to switch your comments settings to "registered and logged in" users.
Does it help?
-
@gaelle Yeah, thank you. Incidentally I switched to this Setting last week after writing a new blog post. I didn't know about it initially and it turns out that many other users don't know this either. In the meantime I accumulated over 1000 spam comments in a very short time by the way.
The only thing I can say is it works – spammers don't have Vivaldi accounts. I also thought about setting the word blacklist, but didn't test this as the registration setting is enough.
And an additional comment about the automatic spam check: Turns out the check only works, if you enable it by having a paid Akismet account. Probably not worth it for a casual blog.
