Catch up with Vivaldi in Japan
-
@burbuja I'ma guess - ビバルディ
-
Is it possible to simply come and listen or are the 5 minutes Vivaldi's appreciation presentation necessary to attend?
-
@burbuja For the browser we stick with "Vivaldi" with latin characters because there are multiple ways ("ビバルディ"、"ヴィヴァルディ"、"ビバルディー"、"ヴィヴァルディー") to write Vivaldi in Japanese :p
-
@dosky Yes, no problem at all Please come and join us!

@lamarca I like more Katakana
If I understand the wiki right, Kanji are not ideogramms, or not all.
Indicators (jap. 指事文字 shijimoji) has been invented for abstract things, which are ideogramms. -
@lamarca: Wikipedia:CJK Unified Ideographs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CJK_Unified_Ideographs
-
@takaaki: Interesting, and if all four i mean "Vivaldi " what changes between them?
-
@burbuja Thanks.
@rtransformation I didn't know about the CJK shared a "common background". Thanks. -
@burbuja I think ヴィヴァルディ is correct.
@Folgore101
Since Japanese language lacks the sound of "v," early translators of western books sometimes replaced "v" with "b" in their writings. Some of these spellings have survived to this day; for example, "Love" is usually spelled "ラブ" rather than "ラヴ" in Japanese, though it actually sounds like "Lab."
"ヴ" is a letter standing for "v," invented in late 19th century to make our translation more faithful to original pronunciation. -
@leopardi Thank you for your explanation, you're very kind.
-
@folgore101 You're very welcome. Thank you for kind words.
-
@folgore101 yep, what @leopardi said

@takaaki Thanks for the phonograms info. A guy told me there are no kanjis for foreign words.
BTW, I can write tiger in kanji -
