Private mode != incognito mode
-
Incognito in Firefox and Chrome open isolated windows that share no state with any other windows. All private mode windows in Vivaldi share the same state. This means that if I open a private window and log in to Google, and then open a new private window, I'm still logged in to Google in the new window. This prevents (a) being able to cleanly log into Google with two different accounts in isolation, (b) it allows sites to track your behavior across "private" windows, and (c) people who have expectations of privacy learned through other browsers may not be aware that Vivaldi provides less privacy than other browsers in this respect, and therefore expose themselves.
Are there plans to add a true sandbox'd window mode to Vivaldi?

I just tried it, and at least in firefox, two private windows have a shared context.
Vivaldi is based on chrome, so I'd assume it does whatever chrome does.

Well, damn. You're right. I was sure the isolation was between incognito windows, but it must have been only between non-icognito and incognito windows, and it's my memory that's flawed.
It's disappointing that all browsers fail to isolate private windows, but I can't fault Vivaldi for being no worse than the rest.
I'm going to leave this up in case anybody else has the same question.

I remember coming across a similar discussion in the past and I, like you, had the initial impression that because they have separate "windows" and they are called "private windows" that they would by design have separated contexts.
They don't though. If you need multiple contexts active at once for your workflow, I would recommend user data dir rather than private windows. But bear in mind that isn't in any way private, and things get stored on your disk. (Though private mode itself isn't much better)

Or (possibly inflammatory) use only one private/incognito window but open others in different browsers
