[Suggestions/Thoughts] From an old Opera user
-
First i want to say, I've only been using this for an hour of so and here are two things I've noticed. 1. Sometimes(mostly when loading a page(recently opened tab)) i won't be able to change tabs, open new tabs or anything pretty much while the page is loading. I think a solution to this would be to have the page loading process run as a thread if it isn't already.(Never developed for a browser before, so not sure if it'll work) 2. The ctrl+1-9. First off i want to say i strongly dislike the current one, the way it works is confusing and extremely useless. What i would suggest is make it like the old opera. So like to open up speed-dial one while on another tab you press ctrl+1. For speed-dial two press ctrl+2. This was maybe one of the things i loved most about Opera. Now this comes really in handy for the everyday user, however for people with more than 10++ websites in the speed-dial they might not like it as much. Note: The top 9 should be your most visited websites. Edit: You can't ctrl+tab or ctrl+shift+tab to change tabs while downloading something from a site. Not sure if from any site, but i was downloading the java jdk when i noticed this. Site: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html Another edit: The flash player on facebook doesn't work properly. When you try and change sound or touch the menu while the video is playing it won't work.

Hello Kasea - your first post, so welcome!
If you're using Technical Preview 2, try updating to the most recent Developer snapshot.
Vivaldi is developing rapidly and there have been numerous bug fixes and feature improvements since TP2. Developer releases have generally been as stable, if not more stable, than TP2. (Follow the Team Blog for weekly updates (usually on Mondays) and occasional mid-week updates.)
RE #1: What are your system specs? I'm on a 6-year-old 32-bit Win7 laptop with only 2GB RAM and only 32GB on-board graphics, and Vivaldi is pretty laggy for me, especially with more than just 5-6 tabs open. But others in the forum with more current systems are reporting MUCH better performance. In any case, however, the developers have stated that as a technical preview, performance is not a priority and will be addressed further down the road.
RE #2: a number of users have requested the Ctrl+1-9 selects respective Speed Dial feature. To me it's is such a prized feature in Olde Opera that I can't imagine it won't be offered eventually.
RE shortcuts, see the shortcut editor on the Settings > Navigation page. The editor still needs some work (e.g., no way to delete or "blank" a shortcut, boxes are not long enough to view full shortcut in some cases, some requested shortcuts not yet available), but you may be able to tweak some of the settings to your liking.
Finally, for any additional suggestions that are likely to be cross-platform in nature, I would suggest the All platforms section of the forum, or even pinned Vivaldi Feature Request thread.

re #1:
i had the same issue in the TP2 and versions before TP2… but in one of the last snapshots it was fixed (mostly; sometimes it still is a little bit slow-ish to switch tabs/open new tabs while loading a page, but generally okay and fixed)... -
I think sluggishness might be a "per machine" thing.
My specs aren't all that different from yours (6-core 3.5 GHz, 10Gb of RAM, 64-bit system of course), and I have run only the 32-bit version, but I have not ever seen, since the first release, anything worse than some slight sluggishness in the UI, not the web - which I no longer see with the last 3 versions or so.

Yes, and please post back on whether it helps.
(FWIW, I'm pretty sure my 2GB RAM is limiting my tab count pretty severely, but I suspect a lot of my Vivaldi sluggishness is more attributable to the painfully inadequate 32MB on-board graphics which seems to choke sometimes even on the Vivaldi homepage.)

An Enter/Go button on the right side of the address field to click on after I have pasted a web address in would be good.

Would be absolutely necessary.
I still have to understand that idiotic general trend of removing the go button everywhere, not just the browser but also programs and websites.
Paste and Go, that is still missing too, is a partial replacement. Both Past and GO and go buttons should be implemented asap.

Why adding a button where a simple enter does the trick ?

Why use Vivaldi and a GUI when you can use elinks in a ASCII terminal?

Then I would have to reach for the keyboard. Shouldn't have to do that in a GUI OS.

Eh.
Sometimes people likes to ask for questions with pretty obvious answers..
