Esc to Close any Pop-ups or Panels

For me, Escape works to close Quick Commands and Clear Browser Data, but I think it is reserved when using settings.
What do you mean by "Panels? "

@rojaviv How is that going to work?
Each panel has it's own command to which a shortcut can be assigned. Esc is assigned to "Stop Loading," by default, but although you can remove that assignment, it cannot be assigned to any other command because it is reserved to another function in the settings dialogue = clearing the search field.

@pesala Got it - so its not configurable. And thanks for the SS - it gave me the hint that panels are closable with F4
I can live with manually closing Settings - on the same lines, I had read elsewhere that if we retain settings on a tab, and leave it there, not only does it consume resources (should be minimal right-they are just pointers) - but also that changes to settings wont take effect if tab remains open ??
BTW, Esc didnt work for me in the two scenarios you mentioned first

@pesala How did you get a green background ? looks cool..

@rojaviv Edit your theme.
I will tag this as WILL NOT DO because I think it cannot be done. No doubt a Vivaldi insider will change that if it is feasible.
-
Sounds good..thanks @Pesala !

@rojaviv This might be a relevant request. If this was implemented, you could then assign a key to it.

@lonm To me it seems like the default setting of F4 (or I may have changed it, on another computer it was Alt+F4, which with my bluetooth keyboard where I have to use funny buttons for function keys crashed V, and I had to watch Linus's tirade all over again.) works great for exactly this purpose.
Any panel I open, I hit F4 and poof! its gone. F4 again and it comes back to where we were. Doesn't it work that way for you ? One nice thing could be if it gently closed itself when it has lost focus in 2-3 min. (Would be nice for Find bar to do that too)

@rojaviv I use a mouse gesture. Since my panels are on the right I use GestureRight, GestureLeft.
-
~~@pesala Nice - but I dont see an option for Close Panel in Mouse options ?~~Nm, see it now Thanks for pointing it out!

@rojaviv F4 works for me to close the open panel, however it also hides the panel toolbar itself, which means I can't see my panel icons or click any of the buttons, which isn't what I want.

Back to having Esc close settings window - just a quick question - as I was assigning sensible shortcuts (I think its a blessing in disguise that V Sync is not yet upto snuff - I am becoming more familiar with where each setting is, doing the same thing on multiple computers , I noticed the shortcut for Stop Loading was Esc (thought it was internal)
I doubt anyone uses or needs this key, as everyone's (who uses V at least internet must be pretty fast, not dial-up, and for me, V loading is faster than Chrome, and browsers are smart enough these days to detect when a page is slow and prompt you if you want to stop loading.
Anyway I removed that shortcut, now am wondering which setting I can assign Esc to, for closing modal (settings) windows.
Close window will close the browser right so I cant use that

@pesala ok guess I will stick to settings in tabs then.
